Wow! I have EXACTLY the same problem. You describe it so well, thank you! I have a RESMED S9 iVAPS machine. I set it in learn mode and it 'learned' but the problem is still there. I have tried many different pressure levels and the problem is still there. I have monkeyed around with volumes too.

Before this machine I had an auto cpap - Respironics Remstar pro. It was amazing, but they don't make it anymore. I got this super high end Resmed from my brother and it is a nightmare.

I sure hope that if you solve your exhale problem you'll post your solution. I'm at the point where I will get a different machine like the old Remstar pro.

regardless of machine, what I found was that the epap or min pressure had to be raised untill the pressure was high enough for the air splint to hold the throat open on exhale. I raised the pressure one cm at a time till it cleared.
