I happen to have read your post AND had washed my whole set-up that day. I thought, well, that's never happened to me.

Lo and behold, that night it happened! A loud noise coming from the swivel, I knew it was that from holding my fingers over it. Ughhhhh. I took it off, looked carefully, didn't see anything unusual so put it back on. I exhaled forcefully into the mask and felt a big drop of water come out (fell on my neck). Did it again and a smaller drop came out.

Fixed. So my problem was just a drop of water that I didn't see. Thought everthing was dry. Not.
Thank you for that! Just having the same problem sat in bed searching for a solution whilst the hissing carried on. 2 good exhales did the trick perfectly.
Thank you again!!!!!

How often are people washing their masks?
Honestly, once a month is plenty, aside from wiping down the silicone surface
that touches your face a bit more often.
Daily washing is unnecessary unless strangers are digging through your things every day.
It is only pushed by manufacturers and dealers to $ELL more masks.
Yes, they want to turn you into OCD slaves so they will MAKE MORE MONEY.

I never wash the elbow. I leave the elbow attached to the hose, and unclip it from the mask when I clean our masks. We have never had any problems with the elbows.

I wipe with cpap wipes but this was my first time washing entire mask and swivel and the hissing happened. I knew there was a valve amd was hesitant to do it but thought should be washed. I usually do fill cleaning once a month… after this though maybe just the wipes or just the cushion and leave the swivel alone not that exhale truck mentioned worked so maybe just that.

I created an account just to say thank you for this thread. I washed my air sense, mask and tube yesterday thoroughly and then experienced the annoying leakage. It took me an hour or two of trying to locate it myself, the Google / YouTube, eventually finding the neat solution on this thread. Thank you all, you’ve saved me needlessly buying a replacement elbow / having a sleepless night last night!

Your post saying to just blow air really hard into the elbow has saved me! It worked beautifully. Washed my CPAP today and the air leak started. But now I can fall asleep peacefully without that awful hissing sound. Thanks so much!!!
I just created a username on here for the sole purpose of saying thank you for this advice. My husband washed his tube thingy for the first time today and then all of a sudden we hear this hissing! We didn’t want to bust out the blow dryer like someone else suggested because it’s almost midnight and our toddler is a light sleeper. So this hack did the trick without waking up our kiddo. Thank you so much!!
