Help! Re boats
Help! Re boats
Hi I’m a Newby to this site but I have been on a CPAP machine for nearly a year and I’ve got used to it now. We are thinking of going away to the Norfolk Broads on a boat and many of the boat companies say that the electrics will not support a CPAP machine. I already use my CPAP when camping off of a deep charge battery and that’s fine for two or three nights but I want to go for about five nights away. Any suggestions on what to use or anyone come across this problem before?

It looks like it would be an interesting journey...
If you are already set up for camping, your focus should be on how to recharge your battery. There are cottages along the way and the boat may be able to charge your battery or at least offer a partial charge. In addition, you can look into solar chargers that fold or roll up.
Many people stop by a cafe to charge their phone or computer. You can just linger a while longer and charge your battery.

Re: Help! Re boats
Dear Showboats:
I am intuiting the Norfolk Broads are the canal system in the UK and are used with the long narrow canal barge boats that we have seen on our travels to the UK and Belgium/Netherlands. While I cannot tell what CPAP you have from your post, please note that there are lithium battery packs that one can purchase (at least in the USA) that ostensibly will run a CPAP for up to 4 days on a single charging. See link below. These packs are recharged through various means including solar panels (I know you are intending to use it in the UK but maybe the one sunny day per year allotted for the UK will fall on your holiday! ;-> )
You can likely get access to a deep cycle battery on the boat and run a two clamp DC current draw off of the battery if the standalone battery packs are too expensive. If not however, the lithium packs seem the best way to go. See link below. I assume they can be obtained in the UK or possibly shipped to the UK. Once you obtain said lithium battery pack(s), I would test it under game conditions by exclusively using it as the power source to get an idea how long it will work for you (note the lower ambient temperature,m the less efficient any battery will be especially if near the freezing point). I hope this information leaves you somewhat chuffed and wish you the best!
