Off of insurance compliance, what does transmitting data do for me?
Off of insurance compliance, what does transmitting data do for me?
Ok, so it just dawned on me, I now own my machine so im not required to transmit my data to the DME. Does the DME do anything with it, has anyone gotten a call, we see your not using your machine or that your AHI has skyrocketed, can we help? Just wondering? I dont plan on turning it off or anything.

You would never get that call...but...you can simply turn on airplane mode and there will be no transmission.

OK to just ignore the issue.
Airplane mode is a PITA.
Nobody is paid to look at it, so no reason to look.
Just wasted microwaves . . .

Re: Off of insurance compliance, what does transmitting data do for me?
Airplane mode on my ResMed Autoset 10 is not a PITA. It's set it and forget it. Every time I turn the machine on or off it reminds me that airplane mode is on and asks if I want to turn it off. I just ignore it altogether--I don't have to respond to the query unless I want to look at stats--then I just say "no". No problem.
I don't want my data transmitted anywhere, I don't want it "phoning home." It's not tinfoil hat time--it's just that there's no reason whatsoever for the data to go anywhere unless I choose for it to.

I ignore it also. Not a PITA for me either. It fades off the screen when ignored.Janknitz wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 3:33 pmAirplane mode on my ResMed Autoset 10 is not a PITA. And I don't go changing anything very often for it to even pop up....and since I use the software most of the time to review anything...don't need to use the LCD screen to see anything and if I did...brief millisecond is all that is needed to tell it "no".

I would like to see a proper " Do not transmit " option instead of using Airplane Mode to achieve similar results.
The problem with using Airplane mode is:
The problem with using Airplane mode is:
- turning off Airplane mode without deleting data will result in data uploaded. This isn't a problem for people who are comfortable with their machines settings, but many people may not be aware of it.
- your machine might need servicing and you may not have the ability to delete data. When your machine is serviced, Airplane mode might be turned off and your data uploaded.
- your machine can't receive OTA updates while in Airplane Mode. Yes, there has been only one OTA update, but it was an important one

If that does happen, they still can't take the machine!
Also, some insurance plans might want you to show continued compliance to be eligible for supplies.

That's what they've said they do with the data.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 4:09 pmHaving said that, I have no problem with my anonymized data going to ResMed. I like to think that they can use it to improve their algorithms and create better therapy in the future.

The "reminder" is a PITA.
IMO, research is done with your medical data whether you know about it or not.
The laws that enabled the theft of Henrietta Lacks' genetic material--still exist.

Re: Off of insurance compliance, what does transmitting data do for me?
Whenever I go in for follow-up appointments, they look at the data to see if any changes are warranted. Last visit they moved me from pillows to a FFM due to excessive leakage. I'm having trouble getting used it, which probably explains why I'm posting this at this hour. Saves me taking in the SD card and waiting while they get the data off it.

Which new mask did you get? Please add your equipment & mask in your profile.

Actually if you want to talk about your new mask, please start a new thread. This one is on data transmitting after the compliance period. We need to stick to one topic.

Re: Off of insurance compliance, what does transmitting data do for me?
Keep in mind your CPAP sleep data is a gold mine of information. If you have breaks from it at night, pharma will pay for names of those with possible prostate issues, and insomnia pharmaceuticals if you have much delay in falling asleep (see swj info for breathing "fingerprint" of tortured drift off to sleep for example), snore data begs for pillow manufacturers to send you adverts, and if you send from your weekend home location when you sleep there, say at the beach, you are valuable candidate for second home products and services, such as insurance etc. Tell me again how HIPAA prevents this selling of sleep info going forward? Read the fine print of the releases you signed when you first got your cpap. You ought to get paid by the cpap company going forward for all of the valuable data you are giving away IMHO.

I'm pretty sure it protects Wiberforce Humphries born 5 may 37's sleep data from being sold, but not #3344235255's sleep data.OfftoNeverNeverland wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 3:57 pmTell me again how HIPAA prevents this selling of sleep info going forward?
But, I could be wrong about that.
