Vitamin D and Pulmonary Function

Post by Auricula » Thu Feb 15, 2007 9:19 am

This article states that dietary vitamin D is an important micronutrient for function of the lungs. Blood work at the time of my last physical revealed a deficiency and my internist put me on 800 IU/day of supplemental D.

I don't know if amount of time spent in the sun is important here but I have avoided exposure for years because of a family history of melanoma.

I was put on 100,000 IU vitamin D once a week (scripted at this strength of course) over 2 years ago for another medical problem. Just about 8 months ago my dosage was finally dropped to 50,000 IU weekly.

Hyperparathyroidism, Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia are just some of the conditions wherein high doses of vitamin D are often SCRIPTED.
