Go get the manual from here.
It explains all the features and menus.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual

I have used the .older Respironics machines but not the DreamStation models and they changed the menus.
It won't show an actual degree setting though for air temp...I think it is 1 through 5 maybe (might be 8)...with 5 (8) being the highest at around 86 degrees.

I'll take a look at the manual, thanks. Last night sucked again. I woke up after a few hours with a leak. Turned out one of the magnetic straps got knocked off. Then a few hours later I woke up feeling like I was breathing in someone else's hot air. So I swapped the hose back to the non-heated. The heated didn't help the condensation anyway so it really wasn't serving a positive purpose.

However, the fact that I was able to leave the mask on for 5 hours is an improvement.

I left a message with the equipment supplier that I want to try the nasal pillows. I'll try calling again today but last week it took 4-5 days to get a return call. Not the best customer service.

They said they never got a message. But they are sending me the nasal pillows so hopefully that'll yield a better experience.

Hi !

Just to throw my two pence worth of comments in ...

Two of my friends and I were all diagnosed with sleep apnea around the same time. All three of us were unknowingly taking our masks off in the middle of the night and waking to find the machine off and mask on the bedroom floor, with absolutely no recollection of doing this. I was even waking up in the night sometimes to find the mask on the floor, so put it back on and went back to sleep, then woke up in the morning to find it on the floor again and had no idea how I was doing it.

One of my friends started to meditate before bed with the mask on and machine running, then found that he stopped taking the mask off. I took this information and started wearing my mask with machine running while awake reading in bed for about 30 mins before going to sleep. Within a week or so of doing this, I too was going a whole night and waking with the mask on.

This whole period of me taking my mask off during the night lasted about 2 months after getting the machine. 2.5 years later and now I can't (and wouldn't try to) sleep without it!

That last sentence I've heard before, that the level of refreshed and energized people get from these machines makes them never want to sleep without it. Each morning I wake up I hope to feel that way. Hasn't happened yet.

The idea of using the machine while awake might have some benefit on convincing the brain of normalcy so it's more accepted when sleeping. I might try it over the weekend. I'm anxious to try the nasal pillows as well. Just have to figure out a system for keeping my mouth shut so I don't sound possessed while sleeping.

That's an interesting idea. I think it kind of defeats the purpose of getting away from a full mask. However, if it's just for a few weeks or months and the brain can be unconsciously trained to keep the mouth closed while sleeping, that'd totally be worth it, assuming I can handle the nasal pillows to begin with.

Hopefully I can test out the nasal pillows sometime this week. I know last night I was cognizant of having my mouth cracked open at least 3 times throughout the night.

Thanks!

for me, the full mask was an untameable mess of leaks ,that proved too much for me. i'm full bearded and couldn't find a way to put up with it. without facing the possibility of shaving. so for me, the nasal pillows plus this worked. no leaks.

oh and you are welcome!

I finally received the nasal pillows in the mail. I think it's comfortable. But we'll see if I can keep my mouth shut.

I had it ready but it was not needed! I got through the night just fine and I'm psyched because the nasal pillows were WORLDS less restrictive compared to the face mask. I did wake up with popped ears so I'm not sure why....and I did have 2-3 times during the night where I opened my mouth but my wife said I really didn't do it much at all. So this is a real pleasant surprise!

well, congratulations! yes, less restrictive plus less overall area for any leaks to develop.

i can't speak to the popped ears. let's hope it was a one off and nothing to worry about.

well done.
