Pugsy, I was told that by the tecnician that set me up. By nasal mask I think its the ones I saw that only cover the nose.Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:01 pmHuh????
Most of all of us here snored...I would rattle the windows with my snoring...been using nasal mask for over 9 years.
The only reason for a person to not be able to use a nasal mask is if they simply can't breathe through their nose because of congestion that can't be cleared up.
Has nothing to do with snoring or not.

Yeah, I assumed as much.
Doesn't mean that they told you the real truth though.
Lots of time they tell people all sorts of crap because they are too lazy to sort through nasal masks and instead just plop a full face mask on people and tell them they "need" that...and maybe the do and maybe they don't.
But unless there is something wrong with your nose in terms of chronic bad congestion...there is zero reason to not at least try any of the nasal masks...be it cushion (over the nose or under the nose) or the nasal pillow kind.
Snoring for a reason to not use a nasal mask...total bull shit.

One can snore perfectly annoyingly with their mouth closed tight.

Damn, I thought so. What the hell, this can make or break your experience. She was telling me I have to use machine 30 days out of 90 for insurance to pay which made me think a lot of people stop using it. After this I can see why if you dont have the right info or someone willing to take the time to fit you correctly. You can be lost if you are'nt helped by people further along the path like yourself.Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:23 pmYeah, I assumed as much.

Re: First Time CPAP user First night Panic Attack
We get "told" all sorts of stuff but that doesn't make it the truth.
I was told I needed a full face mask because I mouth breathed...but my nose was always clear.
Yeah...I did do some mouth breathing sometimes but it was because of the untreated apneas causing me to gasp for big breaths with my mouth open. Once I stopped the apneas...the need to gasp or mouth breathe also ceased.
I have never, ever had to use a full face mask. In fact the first 6 years of my therapy I didn't even own one. Couldn't find one that I could even sleep with so didn't bother.
I have one now that I could use if I had to but in over 9 nears...never once have I ever actually needed to use a FFM because the nose wouldn't work.
From what you have said about this "tech" of yours...I wouldn't trust him/her to tell me the time of day even if there was a clock on the desk to help them out. Obviously doesn't know their stuff and doesn't seem to want to expand their knowledge.

I am in the medical field but this is an area I know nothing about. I probably should have had a CPAP 10 years ago. I will see about the nasal mask as they said i have 15 days to try another mask. I do have problems with congestion but afrin takes care of that if I use it before bed.Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:58 pmWe get "told" all sorts of stuff but that doesn't make it the truth.

I'm still new to this but the first thing I learned super quick is that dme's lie. I too was told I couldn't use a nasal mask. Funny I have less leaks with a nasal mask than I do with a ffm.Dunemedic wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 6:55 pmThank you. Pugsy, I have a question, What is using a nasal mask similar to your offer? I like the fact that I am not a covered but do i just breathe through my nose? I am going to go to the medical supply today and exchange the mask is there a specific model you recommend?Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:58 pmWe get "told" all sorts of stuff but that doesn't make it the truth.

I tried again lastnight this time with GF here but again serios panic. I turned off the ramp but it was still hard to exhale. Is there a way I can change that setting myself?
Thanks again for all your help,
John
Re: First Time CPAP user First night Panic Attack
Look again at my post from yesterday about getting the proper manual with info on changing things.
Re: First Time CPAP user First night Panic Attack
Not to hijack this thread but I've been on CPAP for 4 years. If I'm not totally relaxed and my breathing is relaxed, I also feel like I struggle to get enough air.
Do you think changing my settings could improve this?
I believe my doc said at my last appointment (October 2018) my average AHI was .9.
