Traveling with cpap

Post by serabeth » Wed Jan 02, 2019 3:54 pm

Hi,

I’m traveling to a country outside the U.S. and will be gome for a week. I am not sure about the availability of distilled water there. Should I pack my own, use bottled water? And this is a stupid question but can I just use my machine on the plane as normal but without water in the tank?

Just use whatever tap water may be available wherever you're going. Then, clean the tank when you get back.
Any other type of water besides distilled will have minerals in it......which will be left behind in the tank. That's the difference between distilled and any other type of water.

What he said, exactly. The only reason to use distilled water is to avoid mineral buildup.

You didn't say where you are going.

You can use any potable water (except flavored, carbonated, or colored). Just wash out the tank well when you get back.

Make sure that you have the correct adapters for the country(ies) that you are visiting. It's very unlikely that you would not be compatible with the voltage in you destination country(ies), but you'll need to make sure that's the case. Every country has either 100-130 volts or 210-240 volts and either 50hz or 60hz. Just about every CPAP sold can handle either, as can most phone chargers and most laptops.

Thanks! Although I don’t know whether we need them or not, my boyfriend is picking up some adapters, and from what I have just looked up online it seems distilled water is readily available in pharmacies and grocery stores on the island so I think I should be fine.
