Try giving the mask (and each new one you get) a good soak in water and baby shampoo to get the manufacturers gunk off of the plastic. I had a sore on my nose for several days before reading about this irritation coming from the chemistry. The mask is the thing to get right and the majority of folks have these kind of "start-up" problems.

Good Luck,
TerryB

Apparently, I can choose from several REMstar models, or the S8 Elite or S8 Compact.

I'll read up on these when it gets closer to the date.

They will also let me bring in my SmartCard every couple months and get a printout of my stats.

I'm glad you guys talked me into calling... I'm so nervous because I don't like to bother people. The only reason I did it is because this IS my health, and I haven't purchased the machine yet.
Well, I'm glad you called.

Call me a skeptic, but I sure hope they are telling you the truth. Why would they make you wait a month? Something doesn't sound quite right. Are you going to ask for a Remstar Auto? That's what I would do.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the REMstar models they have, and the S8 Elite.. But I will find out.

They aren't giving me a top of the line model right now because it's a free trial period prescribed by the sleep clinic doctor, but after the first month is over, then I start paying rental fees if I don't decide to buy one.

Just wanted to say hi and welcome. I'm 23. It's nice to see some other whipper-snappers in here.

I'd also second the recommendation to get an Auto. Especially since your doc has given you blessing to poke around and see what pressure(s) work well for you.

Don't be afraid to put more effort into mask selection than machine selection. The mask is the hard part to get right.

Not all units that have Smartcards, collect the needed data. The Remstar APAP, the Remstar PRO 2 CPAP (Classic Tank versions), the Remstar "M" APAP, and the Remstar "M" PRO CPAP all collect the needed data.

You will also need to get a Heated Humidifier to use with the unit.

The software and reader for the card have to be gotten separately, Ins rarely buys it. Jim

Welcome to the Forums =)

Sounds like everyone has you pretty much covered.

Only thing I can add is that if you pick out a REMstar with the smartcard you can get the software fairly easy second hand just ask around, and the card reader can be ordered online from different companies for about $24-$50 depending on shipping and how fast you want it.. Pop into the chat here on the forums and talk with a few of us and I am sure you can get all the info for data collection you need. No need to pay the high price quoted by DME's or have them tell you they can't sell it to you or you can't have it. Here is a link to https://www.cpap.com

They have a good selection and have return insurance you can buy on things so you can try them or send them back for refund. I bought my REMstar Auto with Cflex from them and they were very helpful.

The other brands have units that are just as good and collect data, I just don't know much about those ones. I am sure others on the forums can help you there as well, if you chose one of them.
