Philips DreamStation Humidifier Issue

Post by Tonibaloney » Thu Dec 20, 2018 8:33 pm

I've been using CPAP for around one month and with humidifier the last 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to matter what settings I use the water tank still has plenty of water in it after 5hrs therapy. I have the settings on adaptive at Preheat no 4 , I sleep in a cool room as I always feel too hot at night (no heating in room). Is there something I'm missing or am I not using it long enough to use more of the water. Thank-you and Hi x

What's the ambient humidity in your bedroom?

When you wake up, check the temperature of the water in your tank.

Ours is that way too. Most nights it uses 1/3 of the water at most.

Thanks so much for your helpful comments and suggestions. I have absolutely no clue what ambient humidity is let alone what it is in my room😏....Sorry...I think you're probably all used to the CPAP language but I'd never heard of CPAP till a month ago. BUT I have the amazing Google and I will find out! Appreciate your input..x

I didn't see anything in your post about where you live. If you live in an area with a lot of humidity (coastal areas, etc.), you will use much less water in the humidifier than if you live in an arid area. If your heating/cooling system has a whole house humidifier, that, too, will impact how much water you use at night.

I travel a lot and use my cpap every night regardless of where I am. My water usage varies from almost zero/night to well over half a tank. It just depends on the conditions in the room you are sleeping in.

I did make a mistake here at my daughter's house last night. I usually keep my humidity setting on 4, but it just really didn't seem like I was unusually dry in the mornings, so last night I turned it down to 3. Sometime during the night I woke up and turned it up to 5. I have never been so dry. So it does make a difference, but totally dependent on the conditions of where you are sleeping. No idea what the humidity is, but with it being below freezing last night and the heat on in the house, I'm sure it isn't high.

Update 12-25-18:

First, Merry Christmas to All.

After 2 nights with the humidity turned up to 5 all is better with my nose, etc. But the water tank that usually lasts 2-3 nights just barely makes it for one night. Obviously this house is "dry", but I'm heading back home later today so I all will be back to normal. I just have to remember to turn the humidity down a notch.

FWIW. The only time I have ever got more than one night out of a full water chamber was when I didn’t get much sleep for some reason or it rained all night and I slept with the windows open so the humidity in the bedroom was so high the machine didn’t need to add much water.
The chambers are designed mainly for 1 night usage and anyone getting more than one night out of a full chamber is in bonus territory.
Filling up my water chamber is just part of my nightly ritual just like putting the mask on.
