i also keep the house at low 60's/high 50's at night in the cold north. I just started using a heated hose very recently and still have rainout. I haven't put the cozy back on but will try that tonight.
But the cozy doesn't cover the last 8-12 inches (the mask?) so wondering if I need a cozy for that? I keep the heated hose temp at 86 (use a Resmed Airsense 10
autoset with Swift FX pillows) because when i went with the automatic setting or a lower temp the rainout was much worse.
Any words of wisdom to share?
Heated tube or zippered hose cover better for rainout?
Re: Heated tube or zippered hose cover better for rainout?
With house temps that low you may need to insulate that short hose as well as the barrel of the Swift FX pillows.
You can use an old sock on the short hose but the best thing for the nasal pillow itself that I have ever found has been the Padacheek barrel cozy. Best money I ever spent on a comfort item...plus the material she uses feels like silk against the skin.

I use both. Also, I let my S9 dry out the tube after a therapy session. I have absolutely zero rainout all year round. That's one less wake trigger for me. For many of us, every other thing is a wake trigger. The more you can eliminate, the better you'll sleep. I made my hose cover from a fleece remnant. It's not zippered. It's a sewn tube. I just slink it over the hose. It's very comfortable without a zipper and should the heated hose stop working (happened once) I still have some rainout control.Weef23 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 8:56 amHi all,
Now that its becoming colder in the winter and I'm keeping the house cooler, I'm experiencing rainout in my tubing. I found out there's two options,
1. Zippered hose cover that zips around the tubing and keeps it semi-insulated (about $15)
2. Heated tubing that actively heats the air to keep water from condensing inside. (closer to $40)

I only recently bought hose covers as I have a heated hose, but I had rainout anyway recently. I bought 2 - one for my regular hose, and I have a second, a featherweight, both from padacheek. I have not had any rainout since, but it does make my hose heavier.

Re: Heated tube or zippered hose cover better for rainout?
I used a standard hose for less than a week and had all sorts of rainout problems. I played with the humidity levels and found I had to lower the humidity quite a bit to avoid rainout. I paid for the heated hose and have not looked back since. I tried the auto setting at first and it worked great. Almost too great. I eventually had to lower the temperature because I can only tolerate breathing warmer air for so long and I tend to over heat myself. I dropped my temp from the auto temperature (which must be in the low to mid 80's) to the mid 70's and love the cooler temp. It's still not as low as the 65 the room is at but I have no issues with rainout any more.
I do have to say that when I had a cold, the auto temperature setting felt great. The warmer temps and higher humidity were just what I needed to help get a good nights sleep. I don't think I've ever slept as well while sick before.
