New Machine

Post by csb » Thu Dec 06, 2018 6:29 pm

Well my Fisher/Paykel Icon+ died over a week ago. I called the Dr. office and told them I needed a script for a new mach.. They said I have to make an app. to see the Dr.. I said fine lets do it, she said he has an opening Dec. 20th. I said really, what am I suppose to do for breathing at night in the mean time? I said put me on the hot sheet if someone cancels, call me. She called back and said they had an opening tomorrow afternoon, I took it. I saw the Dr. and said all I need is a script for a new mach.. He says well its not that easy, its been over 10 years since your last Sleep Study and Medicare won't pay for a new mach. unless you have a up to date study, he said his hands were tied.
Got in for a Sleep Study Monday night and they confirmed what I already knew. The Dr's. office call today and said they got the study report and I was eligible for a new mach., Really. My CPAP supplier is Lincare and the nurse said she would call them and fax the necessary paperwork to them. She said they would contact Medicare to get an ok for my new mach.. Then in a couple of days I should call Lincare and make an appointment to get the mach. and whatever else I needed.
Boy you talk about a pain.
What are you people using for new machines now a days? I would think they all have humidifiers, If you have a humidifier do you still need a heated hose. Dr's. office said they all come with the auto pressure sensing on them. I guess I'm looking to find out whats the most popular and reliable.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Start looking here
wiki/index.php/CPAP_models

You want full efficacy data...
ResMed AirSense 10 has a built in humidifier.
Respironics has a separate humidifier.

Heated hoses are now integrated...so condensation chances are greatly reduced.

Take a look at the machine I have in my equipment profile....
It's 3 machines in one...and I think the best of all the auto adjusting machines.

Do you know what pressures you will be needing? If mid to upper teens I would suggest bilevel because if you need exhale relief they have greater options.

I would stick with either ResMed or Respironics brands...those are the 2 main players and of those 2 I prefer the ResMed....quieter, more reliable, superior auto algorithm if you get the apap model.
Now if you like to go camping off the grid using battery power the Respironics might suit you better and it's still a good machine.
It runs off 12 volt from the start....the ResMed is 24 volt so to do battery you need a special converter that costs about $85.
