CPAP Repairs

Post by hobrubal » Tue Dec 04, 2018 3:07 pm

I have had my CPAP machine for about 7 years. I love it. The first night I had it, I slept for 8 hours.
Now, I have a message on my machine that says, "Motor life exceeded. Please contact service provider."
The machine still words fine, but now I am afraid that it would fail while I am asleep. I contacted RESMED who said the same
thing: The motor may stop working. OK, my "service provider" is no longer in the CPAP business. I called two companies that are local.
They said they needed a prescription from my doctor in order to just repair the machine (replacing the motor).
I have gone from very happy with the machine to very frustrated!!
I am still looking into this process, but It does not appear to be easy.
More later, :(

you've picked the wrong things in your profile. Consult this chart:
wiki/index.php/CPAP_models

Once we know what you have, we can start recommending the next steps.

For the price of replacing a motor on a 7 year old machine,. you can get a low hour current model machine. You should consider a back up now...once your motor stops you could be without a machine for weeks.

I say get a new machine! You can keep the old one as a backup.

Hello,

I’ve been using a CPAP since 2007 and have gone through two machines. On the second one it failed on a Sunday morning and I had to wait until Monday to arrange a repair. Luckily Resmed customer service provided me with a business licensed to repair personally owned machines who was in my state. I contacted them and for $220 flat fee they fixed it and had it back to me by Friday. Mind you it was a hard few days doing without my machine but no prescription was needed, they turned it around quickly and it has been working for 15000 hours since the repair. I will have to locate the business name but I think I have it put away for later use.

I've been using an S9 Autoset since 2010. This one is still going strong, but it gives me the same notice.
I've got a backup, so I'm not too worried.
I'm not exactly sure when it started posting the notice, but it's definitely over the five-year limit most machines say they're good for.
I need to start thinking about a new machine. This one has been incredible. I'll bet the Air Sense Autoset 10 is even better.

I just saw my Doctor. He ordered me a new machine, but what do I do with the old one?? I hate to discard it because it still works. I can use it as a back-up CPAP, but I already have one.

As long as it still works it can still be used as a back up machine for someone somewhere...heck it could still be used as a primary machine in a pinch for someone hard up.

If you want it out of the house and since you already have one spare available...
Call up these people and ask if they want it as a donation to be refurbished and then passed on to someone in need.
They have the ability to refurbish it.
https://acbio.com/

If they don't want it...offer it up on the forum here. I bet someone will snatch it up...the message hurts nothing as long as the machine still works fine otherwise. There are machines out there being used in excess of 25 K hours.
