High Leak Rate Low AHI

Post by azbeeking » Fri Nov 30, 2018 9:37 pm

Hi there, new to the board, not new to CPAP. It has been about 7 years of usage. Just trying to get the most out of the therapy and I came across this site. I have not had a sleep study since my first one and I want to make sure all is well. I probably go too long on mask usage without replacing, but Ive been trying to get my leak rate down over the last 4 days and it seems pretty consistently poor. Ive tried tighter and looser. I also tried a small and larger "gasket" as the mask I'm using comes with two. My AHI is has always been below .75 but that seemed so strange to me with so many large leaks.

Im using F&P Full Face Flexifit 431 and a Resmed S9 with H5I humidifier.

Any input is appreciated. Part of me feels that the machine is making top for the lost air but this seems like a lot of making up that the machine is doing,

Thanks!
Kendall

Welcome to the forum.

The machine can make up for some big leaks but I don't think it can handle leaks of the magnitude you seem to be having for the duration involved. Those are some really bad leaks and while I will let a little big leak slide...I couldn't let that much and that deep into large leak territory slide.

Do you by chance have any facial hair being involved with the fit and seal?

Just how new or old is the "gasket" as you called it that came with this report above... BTW the correct term is "cushion"?
When was the last time you got new headgear?

Thanks for replies, cushion is about 3 months old, head gear same. Maybe it’s time for a new one?

I have stubble when I sleep, I don’t use a razor at night but an electric in the morning.

I also tend to sleep on my side with my face juxtaposed towards the pillow but I would think leaks like this would wake me up due to sound or air blowing in my eyes.

Thanks!
