AirSense 10 a nightmare
AirSense 10 a nightmare
I had a ResMed S8 for years and LOVED that machine but it quit working earlier this year. My provider gave me a ResMed AirSense 10 to replace it and I hate this machine. I've had sinus infections and dry sinus constantly since using it, no matter how often I clean the thing. The humidity level was so low at first that my sinus would close down and I would wake up being unable to breath. Adjusting the humidity level up would fill the tubing with fluid and blow water all over my face and wake me up. They gave me the heated tubing but the only way that it helps is to bury the tubing under pillows and blankets and then, don't move in bed! Does anyone else have these problems with this machine? I've been back to the provider many times and they don't have any suggestions to try. At this point, I get more sleep and better quality sleeping in a reclinder.

How cool is the room you are sleeping in? Are you using a heated hose? Is the condensation in the tube or your mask? Which version of the AirSense 10 do you have? It's hard to recommend any corrective action with the limited information you provided.

Re: AirSense 10 a nightmare
That isn't going to help.
It's *highly* unlikely that you're getting any kind of sinus infection from the machine, more likely it's your nose reacting to different humidity.
Or, get a hose cozy. but, before that, what temp do you have the heated hose set to? raise it.4Mrl wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 11:26 amThe humidity level was so low at first that my sinus would close down and I would wake up being unable to breath. And be sure you have the machine on a level lower than your head/bed, so the water runs back to it instead of to you.
Re: AirSense 10 a nightmare
It looks like this is an AirCurve 10 VAuto with HumidAir integrated humidifier.
The temp in the room at night is 62 degrees F.
The humidifier is set at 5 with the hose temp set at 86 degrees, which is the highest setting on the heated hose.
The condensation will "puddle" in the heated tubing and fluid ends up in the nasal pillows. The water spray comes out of the vent located on the mask just below the nasal pillows.

Thanks Julie! That is a simple and sensible suggestion! Technology did not improve these things, the old one didn't have a heated hose and it worked great.
Re: AirSense 10 a nightmare
Depending on the nasal pillow construction you may find that gravity doesn't help you much with the water pooling in the pillows.
Due to the air input opening and the way the pillows are made the water in the mask pillows can't drain out no matter how low the machine might be. The water can't find its way to the hole to drain out. Been there and done that too many times to count and even with the heated hose

If most of the water problem is in the pillows...consider a barrel cozy from padacheek.com. Worth its weight in gold for insulating the pillow itself so the air stays a little warmer to prevent the cooling which causes condensation.
I do know one person that had to use 2 barrel cozies....I was always able to get by with just one.
Or a short hose cozy for the short hose from the heated hose to the pillows. The idea is to keep the air as warm as possible in a cool bedroom.

Re: AirSense 10 a nightmare
If you are now experiencing uncontrollable rain-out (with a heated hose) with your AS 10, and never experienced it with your S8. And assuming your environment has not changed all that drastically, this suggests you are now providing a lot more humidity.
The s8 vs the AS10 water chamber is comparable in size 390 vs 380ml in capacity. How much more water are you using?
When you first experienced sinus issues are you sure the cause was not enough humidity and not something else, a cold.
When you subsequently turned up the humidity, did you increase it well beyond what your s8 was providing.
Now that your nose dryness has healed, consider notching back the humidifier back to 4 or 3 and see if you can find the sweet spot between sufficient humid and no rain-out.

Re: AirSense 10 a nightmare
Unfortunately this guide doesn't compare S8 humidity settings but S9 without heated hose will be similar.
https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... sa_eng.pdf
All this is theory and as with all theories doesn't always equal real life. We just have to play with the settings to find out what works for keeping the nose happy and also doesn't let annoying condensation from happening.
I can't use the auto heated hose setting despite it supposedly preventing moisture....while it works for in the hose it doesn't work for in the mask. That's because of the moisture in my own exhaled breath and the fact that my mask uses a short hose so the air in the hose has drop some degrees by the time it reaches my nose.
