I finally have an actual legit prescription for the machine I've needed to breathe since 2015.
I have been using Respironics equipment since the beginning, and did very badly on a Resmed APAP trial (the good - quick increases helped me stay asleep! the bad - it waited for me to breathe before starting the inhalation, and I sometimes don't. I didn't have central apnea on my study which is good. But that doesn`t mean it won`t happen again and I hope to cover my bases.)
I recently (thank you, Canada Airport security who demo'd my lovely System One Auto BiPap) purchased a Dreamstation Auto BiPap. Which will be covered since they caught the mess on video. It works well except the motor drives me CRAZY. it sounds like a standard car revving up - not loud, but a quiet high pitched ebb and flow, and I have to wear ear plugs to use it. Not a breathing issue at all; sleep maintenance insomnia and it's just too much to get back to sleep.
First - is this normal? I have a friend who took hers back and did get a quieter replacement.
Second - I have looked ad nauseum to try to figure out the difference between VAuto and Aircurve 10S. A year ago, a Resmed RT told me I would need the VAuto to deal with the problem above. However my local CPAP supplier will only trial the 10S.
Does anyone know the difference?
Thanks so much!

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10S (bilevel) vs. Resmed Aircurve 10 VAuto and noisy Dream Station
AirCurve 10 S....2 modes of operation....cpap mode and fixed bilevel mode....it can't/won't auto adjust the pressures like you need if I remember correctly.
AirCurve 10 VAuto...3 modes of operation...cpap mode...fixed bilevel mode ....and auto adjusting bilevel mode.
What does your prescription actually say?
It might need to be worded a little differently to force the supplier to dispense auto adjusting pressure mode machine.

First: yes, Respironics machines are whiny... I got rid of the last one I had because that rising and falling whine bothered me.aspen wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 12:02 pmFirst - is this normal? I have a friend who took hers back and did get a quieter replacement.

Second:: Basically, the S is the bilevel equivalent of the Elite, (fixed pressure) and the Vauto is the bilevel equiv of the Autoset (auto adjusting pressure).
The Vauto can either be set to, or adjusted to behave like four different machines, Elite, Autoset, S, and Vauto. Plus, it gives more fine tuning ability than any other machine.
None of these will help in any way with central apnea. For that you need a ST, or ASV. But, 'forgetting to breathe' now and then is nothing to be concerned about....just when it starts happening repeatedly.

She just called me back - she did goof.
The machine I would be able to trial is the Resmed S10 VPAP auto bilevel.
I believe this answers my concern.

I had no problems noise-wise either my System One CPAP (which of course wasn't revving up and down), or my recently deceased System One Auto biPap. It "may" have been louder than the Resmed machines, but it was white noise air-blowing loud which both my husband and I are fine with.
This WHINY thing. It's dreadful
