And we thought cpaps had a high markup... that's like ... maybe a buck worth of material.
I guess you have no clue this morning about the costs of MDs, medical researchers, technicians, report writers, facilities, etc., etc. that it takes to provide the documentation to the FDA? Then there are the marketing and sales personnel needed to sell even the first one? Then you have to pay the investors dividends?

Another reason for the cost is that to set this thing you need to know the exact amount of pressure being imparted on the cricoid cartilage, so the reflux band comes with a custom digital pressure sensor (the "External Manometer and Pressure Sensor") so users can dial the pressure to between 20-30 mmHg. After skimming the the user manual, I think it's more than ok for this device to cost as much as single CPAP mask. You really don't want a device like this to be poorly made, otherwise it's way too much like the strangling machines some countries use to execute prisoners.

Will someone develop RefluxyHead public domain software so we can fine-tune the pressure?

I have plenty of clues.

However, 170$ for a choker is ridiculous. Anything marketed as "medical" is ridiculous in this country.

The dialysis clinic I go to tries to bill over $200.00 for a TWENTY CENT SYRINGE.

Someone tried to make the same argument you are about having to pay for the salaries of everybody at the clinic that touches that syringe, and the overhead to keep the clinic running, yadda yadda yadda.

I pointed out that i can buy that syringe for TWENTY CENTS on Amazon, and I'm paying for the factory that made it, the purchase of all the equipment, overhead, energy costs, the design and development of the syringe, the cargo container and ship that transported it, the truck driver AND HIS TRUCK that brought it, the delivery guy and HIS truck that dropped it on my door...

TWENTY CENTS.

All I was referring to was the markup on the material costs.

My understanding is that it is the LES more than the UES that is generally the issue with GERD and aerophagia. It is best to keep stomach contents out of the esophagus, not just out of the throat and lungs. Stomach contents do a number on the esophagus and LES, and I don't see how that gadget would effectively address that fact.

No eating, in fact consuming nothing but water, within three or four hours of going to bed is said to work for some over time in healing the LES. But that's a difficult thing to study, since there would be no monetary reward for finding it worked.

That is my understanding also. I got all excited until I realized it targeted the UES and not the LES. It's the LES that I have trouble with (and the small hiatal hernia that I have also).
Though I may have stumbled on to something that is giving me positive results in terms of GERD relief...I never really had much in the way of aerophagia issues myself. Too soon to know for sure and I don't want to jinx myself.

Please update this thread once you have experience with it. The clinical study results are impressive. There are only three reviews on Amazon, but all three give five stars.
