Tubing diameter setting on dreamstation impacts pressure?

Post by Weef23 » Tue Oct 09, 2018 10:43 pm

Hi all,

I was going through the settings on my dreamstation and noticed it had a setting for tubing diameter. It's set to 15 but I believe my tubing is actually larger than 15 when comparing to another tube I was given that says 15. Would this change the pressure coming out of the machine if the diameter is set wrong? And if the tube is wider than it thinks, would I need to raise or lower the pressure if I set it correctly?

Just wondering!

A different diameter hose will affect air resistance in pumping, where a larger diameter hose can have a larger volume/flow than a smaller one for a given amount of power used: I'm not 100% certain how that will affect things on the machine end of sensing, though I'd expect the smaller diameter to register at a higher pressure for a given amount of power used, and this needs to be accounted for.

Best to get the diameter correct.

If you use a small tube with the normal setting, it'll seem like your pressure is too low at the mask, if you use a large tube with the small setting, your pressure will seem to be too high.

The difference in tube sizes is obvious and clear, not subtle.
