is this normal?

Post by slvigeant » Tue Oct 09, 2018 6:32 am

Good Morning,
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in June, 2018 I started a cpap machine, and my numbers dropped from 45 - 10. Not feeling any better and could not get any lower, went for a sleep study at hospital, and I have to use a bipap. Bipap was used last night for the first time, and my AHI was 18! Higher than my cpac was. Did this happen to anyone else? And does anyone else need to take a sleeping pill or anything else to help AHI to come down? I notice if I have a couple glasses of wine, my AHI will go to 5.3

It is the AHI over time that matters more than one night alone.

Sleeping pills are not for long-term use.

Alcohol near bedtime may seem as if it helps, but it actually damages our sleep in that it disrupts the sleep later in the night that is so valuable to our health.

My machine reports trending efficacy data to me on the screen, which allows me to dial-in, or tweak, my pressures for the lowest-possible AHI over time.

Machines are set to certain air pressures as prescribed by the doctor per results of your tests, and you need to know what those are. Either ask the dealer or your doctor's office for the info as you have every right to that.

That hippy dippy zen music helps my AHI.
