Still snoring 4 years in

Post by rino7603 » Thu Oct 04, 2018 6:53 am

I know there are probably tons of topics on snoring, but I have spent over an hour searching keyword snoring. So I am going to post the question again.

I have been using cpap for 4 years now and still snore. I snore on my side and back according to my wife. She uses earplugs and still can hear me if she wakes up and keeps her from falling back asleep. I have used full mask to currently using nasal pillows.

Is it common for snoring to never go away? Is there other things I should be doing?

Snoring is usually a symptom that the airway is still trying to collapse...means the pressure settings aren't optimal.

I will have tocheck settings, but I believe it is on auto adjust...and don’t remember the range it hits. My machine has the stupid codes I have to write down and then enter one at a time to see results. Such a pain to try and track my data. I will look them up and post so maybe you can give advise on what might help.

To do the code thing you need to plug them in here
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/devilb ... ap-machine
See where it says "track your therapy".

Just because a machine can auto adjust doesn't mean that it can always get to where it needs to be in a timely manner to do the best job at holding the airway open.
Most often we have to help out with increasing the minimum pressure where the machine starts at. Give it a better head start.
If all you are having is snores without much of anything else getting flagged probably all you would need is 1 or 2 cm more minimum to get rid of the snores.
The maximum isn't so critical unless you are using a really small range and you are hitting the maximum pretty much all night and if that is the case then you would need more maximum.

What are you actual pressure settings?

I don't see a snore report anywhere...does your machine not flag snores?

Nope. And I have to wait another year before insurance will pay for a new machine. I hate the divillbis! I get no good data to try and learn how to get best results

I have no idea what the pressures are actually going to. It is set on auto adjust instead of actual min/max pressures. I do know how to switch it back, but don’t know what I should actually set them to.

Go here and request the manual for your machine so you can go in and see what the settings actually are.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
If you are in auto pressure mode there is indeed a minimum and maximum pressure setting.
Without seeing any pressure graphs we have no way to know where the pressure starts or what it goes to.
It's not going very high though because the 90/95% numbers are running 8 to 9 ish.
I think the minimum pressure on that machine is 3 cm (maybe 4) and it probably is just set to the factory defaults which most likely is 3 (or 4) minimum and 20 maximum.

We are guessing here....but try increasing the minimum by 2 or 3 cm and see if that stops the snoring. Your AHI is decent enough but there's no way to evaluate snores from the data you have available. Now you can buy a module so that you can get more detailed data but I would rather see you put that money towards a machine that offers full data without having to buy anything special.
Try a little more minimum pressure and see if spouse says your snores reduce.

Here's the module
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/devilb ... apy-module
I don't know if it will show snores or not because I don't remember if the machine actually flags them or not.
If you wanted to get it...SleepyHead will work with it but SleepyHead only shows the data that the machine records.
Maybe someone here who has this machine and the module can tell you for sure what it shows. I just don't remember and I have never used this machine.

Thanks for info Pugsy! I am going to look into whether the module will give me better statistics! I have hated not having the data to learn how to get the most out of my machine. I will also look at the minimum pressure and try increasing it.

Really love the help you and others give to everyone!!

Thanks again
