YAWNS and Ear Infections

Post by Linda2018 » Wed Sep 19, 2018 2:21 pm

Here's a tip to all readers of this great page... Don't yawn with your CPAP mask on.

I got 2 painful ear infections the first year I got my CPAP machine. My doctor didn't think the CPAP caused them, but I did. I noticed one day when the machine was on full blast that when I swallowed I could feel my eardrums straining. So I yawned to check it out and sure enough my ears popped. Now, every night I deliberately yawn 3 or 4 times BEFORE I put my CPAP mask on, to eliminate my need to yawn. If I have to yawn after I put the mask on, I pull the mask away from my face about an inch to reduce the pressure, yawn, and then put the mask back snuggly on. No more ear infections! :)

Yawning is a reflex in response to hypoxia.
I hardly ever yawn since going on cpap.
Ear infections are caused by other things.
It is also possible to yawn WITHOUT popping one's ears.
(((How does one not KNOW that?)))
