I got 2 painful ear infections the first year I got my CPAP machine. My doctor didn't think the CPAP caused them, but I did. I noticed one day when the machine was on full blast that when I swallowed I could feel my eardrums straining. So I yawned to check it out and sure enough my ears popped. Now, every night I deliberately yawn 3 or 4 times BEFORE I put my CPAP mask on, to eliminate my need to yawn. If I have to yawn after I put the mask on, I pull the mask away from my face about an inch to reduce the pressure, yawn, and then put the mask back snuggly on. No more ear infections!

YAWNS and Ear Infections
Here's a tip to all readers of this great page... Don't yawn with your CPAP mask on.

Re: YAWNS and Ear Infections
Yawning is a reflex in response to hypoxia.
I hardly ever yawn since going on cpap.
Ear infections are caused by other things.
It is also possible to yawn WITHOUT popping one's ears.
(((How does one not KNOW that?)))
