Resmed Autoset /SmartStart & SleepyHead

Post by Grace~~~ » Mon Sep 17, 2018 4:50 pm

I have been very curious about something and would appreciate any insight.

I have an Airsense 10 AutoSet and I began using the "SmartStart" feature more than a year ago when I had a terrible feeling my on/off button might break soon.

I try to be careful to make sure the SmartStart shuts off, but a certain percentage of the time it doesn't. I swear it starts breathing on it's own, but maybe I just didn't wait patiently enough for it to shut down.

I follow the results on SleepyHead and I'm just wondering what would one expect to see in the SleepyHead results, or how would SleepyHead report long (ish) periods of the machine being on without me being attached to it?

Which criteria would be effected?

Thanks again to all of you pros who are patient with those of us who have gaps in our comprehension. I've pondered this now for quite a long time. LOL ... I know it's probably a really simple concept/answer

... probably not the brightest  in the socket :P 8)
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.

If the machine runs very long without a human being attached to it you will see a BND or Breathing Not Detected flag on the Events graph with a big black section on the other graphs.

SmartStart doesn't always work so great in the Off side of things with some masks at the lower pressures. Mine doesn't with my nasal pillows and the pressures I am using. Auto On works great but Auto Off won't work unless I remove the nasal pillow or just unhook the short hose from the long hose. This happens when there isn't enough resistance difference between when the human is attached and when there is no human. Not a big deal...either just reach over and push the button to turn it off manually or unhook the mask hose from the long hose and let the Auto Off do its thing.
