Face marks with the new p10 mask for airmini

Post by Amany55 » Fri Aug 17, 2018 11:57 am

Hello,

I got the airmini for travel as it is compact and easy to carry on. I got with it the p10 mask setup. I am using p10 mask for my regular resmed 10 for her without any problems since I started therapy last winter. The new p10 for airmini is heavier and it’s straps leave marks on my face. It is not tightly fitted on my face at all and I don’t hear any leak. My airmini score is above 95 almost all nights that I am using it during my trips. Anyone faced this issue and how it is solved
Thank you

Is the inline humidity capture device adding weight & strain?
The headgear may be tighter than your other P10 mask but they should be interchangeable.
If your other mask is a P10 for her, the headgear is slightly smaller, IIRC.

Why don't you just use your regular p10 mask, or go to padacheek.com and get some strap covers made especially for the p10. There are two types of p10 mask, the regular one or the for her variety, the regular is blue and grey, the for her I believe is pink and a bit smaller, otherwise there is no difference unless you bought a "knock off"
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Nan- the air mini masks are special made to fit with the air mini. You can't use a regular P10 with it, it has to be the P10 for the Airmini.

Need to see the difference, if any, in the width of the headgear that comes with the P10 for the AirMini.
Specifically the side portion that goes across the cheek area to see if the strap covers from padacheek for the regular P10 would fit the P10 AirMini version.

If the side part is too large then perhaps making some sort of cheek strap cover to diffuse the pressure so the dents in the cheeks won't happen.
That's what I use all the time with my P10 because if I didn't I would have some pretty ugly and long lasting dents on my cheeks.

Proprietary mask: deal breaker for me.

Thank you all,
I believe it is the weight of the filter in the setup as it pulls down the straps. When I am still awake, I can hold the tube with the filter to be away from my face however, I can’t control it when I am asleep. I will look for these covers.

Thank you very much for sharing,
Do you recommend also the cover for the base of pillows that irritates my nostrils base too?

The barrel cozy would not help with that. It is designed mainly to help reduce rain-out in the mask
Many people initially have irritation when using the P10 pillows sometimes trying a different size pillow helps as long as they seat on the outside of the nostrils.

Just wondering: why is the HME on the airmini attached to the mask,
where the Transcend has it on the machine?
I would think the Transcend plan is ergonomically way better.

The Trancend has it on the mask, just the way the AirMini does. They have to put the CO2 wash out vent right between the supply hose and the mask humidity trap. If they put the vent on the mask side of the humidity trap the humidity would just get washed out of the mask with the CO2. The required placement of the washout vent means you can't put the humidity trap on the machine as it would put the washout vent way too far away from the mask, with too much CO2 retaining dead space.

The trancend mask:

It is a humidity trap to catch humidity as you exhale. It needs to be close to the humidity source.

Since weight can be a problem, maybe there should be additional support for that component.
(Like the little strap I created for my Elan elbow)
Either that, or "somebody" needs to work on a lighter design.
Making vacationers miserable is not a way to sell their pricey machine.

Definitely. The P10 headgear is barely adequate for the original P10, and that only being possible because the P10 is half the weight of the earlier ResMed nasal pillows masks.

When my RT found out that I didn't have DME coverage she suggested I buy a travel CPAP - I think because since I was paying cash anyways why not get the small version that insurance doesn't pay for that does all the same things as the full size version. I don't think she realized how significant the mask limitations of the AirMini are since so few (if any) of her patients have them.
