Hi everyone! I was just dx 4 months ago and have been searching the hell out of this issue but haven't found an answer.
I bought a used machine while I waited for my insurance to process. It was Respirionics RemStar M Series with A-Flex. My Dr did the settings.
I woke up rested. Energized. Happy first thing in the morning.
When I use my Phillips Dreamstation with the same mask and same setting from my Dr, it does not feel as good. I don't wake rested. I'm not energized in the morning. My sleep data has gotten worse on it. Sleeping less. My Dr increased my pressure from 5-20 to 7-20.
Any idea why the old RemStar M Series A-Flex worked better for me? Any suggestions for similar machines?
According to the Dr and sleep tech, same mask, same co, same algorithm (although they old machine was Respirionics before Phillips bought them), should =same experience.
My sleep has gotten worse the last 2 months. Sleeping 5-6 hrs. Mask comes off in the middle of the night.
The old m series machine broke (system error) and I'm scrambling to understand things.

Re: Better W Old Machine? Respirionics RemStar M Series w A-Flex VS Phillips Dreamstation
Thanks for the response. I don't have any charts for the remstar auto m series with A-Flex because the card reader was broken.
This is a question about technology. How the A-Flex might have changed when Phillips bought Respirionics. Once I understand what machines match the one I like, then I have more options to purchase a used machine. Or if there's a way for the dreamstation to behave like the remstar m series auto A-Flex.
All I know is my body was very rested and alert when I used the remstar m series with auto a flex. The algorithm is different and I can't find an answer on how it is different. Now I'm experimenting with A-Flex 1,2,3 on the dreamstation. 3 is the most gentle response. It has been on 3 the whole time.
My dreamstation data is not accurate. For example, last night I went to bed between 2-3 AM and woke up at 1:30 PM. The machine said I slept 7.59 hrs. I felt exhausted and groggy when I woke up. Worse than when I sleep without the machine.
Attached is some data from the dreamstation.
The Dr started the setting at 5-20. In Aug she changed it to 7-20. I was dx'ed with a mild case. In the sleep study I had 5 episodes and blood oxygen went to 80%.

For some reason, I am sensitive to the machines. I did not sleep well on the ResMed air sense.

And this link has helped me understand the technology difference a little:

As far as I know, there's no documented change in the way aflex works between the M auto and the dreamstation auto.HappyZzzz wrote: ↑Sat Aug 18, 2018 6:51 pmThanks for the response. I don't have any charts for the remstar auto m series with A-Flex because the card reader was broken.

Cflex, cflex+ and Aflex are subtly different, you can try all three.
The higher the *flex number, the more the pressure relief when you start to exhale, but even at 3, it's a small amount, (max of 2cm if you're really taking BIG breaths).
