Questions about numbers and fogginess

Post by Shnorky » Tue Aug 14, 2018 5:44 am

Hey everybody!

A few weeks ago I tried to switch from PR to a Resmed machine, and the numbers improved, but the feeling was awful - VERY tired, dark rings under the eyes, and losing emotional stability. So I switched back. Then last week I had a checkup and they noticed that my average/95% pressure was 0.1 cmH2O below the current maximum. But the daily feeling was ok. I think. We get used to things so easily.
So I added 0.5cmH2O to both min and max, and the same happened as for the Resmed machine, numbers around 4 (instead of 7-10) but awful awful feeling and dark rings under the eyes. Yesterday I added 0.5cmH2O more to both min and max, and disabled Flex. It seems to be a bit better, apart from awe-inspiring aerophagia, but hard to say after 1 night.
Do you have any ideas what to change or try, in order to improve? Any help would be very welcome!

I've never seen the minimal number setting so high. Why is that?

Two reasons:
1) If the pressure starts low, the machine takes ages to reach a pressure high enough to prevent events
2) the doctor's idea to keep both min and max pressure as near together as possible, to try and prevent centrals (apparently the pressure going up can trigger centrals in some patients)

With settings that high and close together, you are nearly in the straight cpap mode.

I can't answer your questions but I will tell you what happened with me. I'm surprised more qualified people haven't offered you help. I was on APAP for a year and I had low numbers, mostly by me tweaking the pressure with Pugsy's help. At the one year mark my DME wanted a new prescription and I had to find a new Sleep Dr. because my old one quit taking Medicare. The new Dr. wanted to retitrate me which was fine. After I went thru the titration the tech. told me in the morning that she had to raise my pressure all the way to 18 to get me to stop snoring. I thought, that's strange because I had always had Snores and a lot of RERA's as well on my old settings. My pressure is now at 17-20 and I don't think I have had any Snores on SH or RERA's. I do believe if I had gone to this Sleep Dr. to begin with I would likely have a BIPAP or something else. I wish I had answers for you but I would just be guessing.

Woah, glad you got it sorted out!
Went back down with the pressure last night (got to try and keep THIS job at least), AHI back at 7.something.

And with a slight suspicion that the truck-in-the-face feeling is some swollen and/or blocked sinuses.
