I read on a veterans site, that if you require PAP therapy, you are automatically given a 50% disabled rating and can get benefits:

https://www.vetshq.com/2016/02/sleep-ap ... sability/
If a veteran requires a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device, the VA disability rating for sleep apnea is set at 50 percent or above. With increased claims, the rating schedule for sleep apnea is expected to be included in the VA’s overhaul of the rating schedule (38 CFR Part 4), though no recent changes have been made.
So is everyone here disabled or retired? That's not a bad thing, but I am just wondering.
It's not even close to being that simple. I'm a veteran and having breathing issues related to burnpits while deployed. I never even thought of having Apnea/ Hypopnea since I was young and in shape (hell I'm still only 34). Now several years later, when I finally had a sleep study conducted, I discovered my o2 was low at night from Apnea and has likely become the root cause of other ailments. I submitted a claim to the VA and was denied without actually meeting with a DR to discuss my history. So it's certainly not an automatic thing.

I'm a 53 year old male, not retired or disabled. I'm not exactly athletic, but I'm not overweight and am pretty active (limited because I both work a full workweek and have young children).

More Socialist Liberal Fodder, You are only disables if you are too lazy to work for a living, and not smart enough to use your XPAP machine correctly. In which we need to stop providing for your needs period. Jim

I get Agent Orange from V.A. but it's not 50% only 25%, but unlike XPAP it has no cure only death, and I worked hard until I retired. P.S., I'm not a Liberal, and I'm not on the dole!
I read a good post from a vet who defended his disability rating due to OSA. He said because he is a tied to the machine, he is disabled in the same way a person who is tied to an oxygen machine is disabled. Without the CPAP machine, he is doomed. I can't find it now though. I would say that the CPAP machine is life sustaining and without it, you could die. In fact, there was a case in NJ where a woman CPAP user had her power cut off for non-payment, and she died the next day or soon after.
I suppose he sleeps 24 hours each day and doesn't have the time to become a useful member of the human race. Welcome to Liberalville! Jim
I don't approve of this kind of talk. Insulting me as a liberal has nothing to do with CPAP use or disability. Maybe the original question was not to your liking but your responses are pretty rude and insulting to a large group of people you know nothing about. I didn't expect to see this kind of stuff on a CPAP forum. I see enough of it on FB. It seems unnecessary and unhelpful here. Just sayin.....

Good thing I don't seek or need your approval, as it doesn't match mine on any level. Jim

I'm a veteran with an Honorable Discharge and am on XPAP. Not disabled and will never be.
Same exact story here.

(And, if anyone called this 69 yr old vet "disabled", I would challenge them to a 5-mile foot race followed by a game of concentration.)

Welcome to Jim's hateville... There's a crew of small minded people who jump all over everything *I* say, but ol Jim gets a pass with his nastyness... I guess because he's occasionally funny...

Best just to put him on the foe list, because he's regularly spewing his bigoted views.

in case you don't know, this is how you put someone on your foe list.

right click on his user name. new menu appears. about 3-4 lines down, click where it says something like add to foe list. follow the directions.

once he's on your foe list, you'll never read his stuff again. the forum software will advise that he's posted. you can click to read if you want to.

only time you'll see his posts are if someone quotes him. nothing you can do about that.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

We are all here but a limited time.
It saddens me when some choose to fill what little time they have left with bitterness.
As much as their vitriol upsets me, the wasted energy is all theirs.

NO...YOU are funny even when you're tough, palerider! He's just a nasty guy. I "foed" him after that interaction. I'm stressed enough just trying to sleep and breathe at the same time!

Absolutely! And I TRULY appreciate those of you who have (and still are) going down the rugged road of apnea & CPAP and continue to support the rest of us with advice and humor. I would have quit the effort WEEKS ago had it not been for all the help I've received here!! :!:
