Still high AHI even with cpap

Post by TrainGuy55 » Sat Aug 11, 2018 1:39 pm

Hi all, Everybody here has been such a big help so thank you.

I've been using cpap for a few weeks now. I have the dreamstation and the dreamwear full face mask.

I find that according to the Phillips Dream Mapper software. Mask fit is usually fine at above 98%. But AHI can still be high. when looking into the details. For example on one night I slept for 6 hrs, had 99% mask fit. My AHI was 7.8. But deeper details review

Total clear airway apneas = 2
Total Obstructive apneas = 9
Total Hypopneas = 36

Now I'm not sure if these total numbers are total per hour or total per night. But they still seem high. When I had my sleep lab sleep study I had a 35 interruptions per hour the doctor told me.

Any advice on what this means?

Thanks :)

sorry, can't help with the numbers, though i expect they are per hour.

it would help others to help you better if you were to download the sleepyhead software and post data from that. you can find links to this software if you read the newbie post above.

good luck!

Ignore the totals, they're pretty meaningless without the hours, and if you say totals and hours, then math is needed to figure out the AHI, so... just say what the AHI is.

Your AHi of 7.8 is way too high.

Read the sticky post on the forum about how to post some charts.

DreamMapper reports AHI which is an overall average per hour.

It also reports to total number of each category of events for the entire sleep session.
So these are over the entire 6 hours
Total clear airway apneas = 2
Total Obstructive apneas = 9
Total Hypopneas = 36
When you add them together you get 47 total over the entire 6 hours.
To get the AHI your divide the total by the number of hours
So 47 divided by 6 hours is where they come up with AHI of 7.8 which is too high and you probably need a pressure adjustment.

I also use the DreamMapper software and wish I received better feedback. I have been on my current BiPAP machine and settings for more than a year. Lately my AHI has been upper teens to low/mid 20’s. My machine is the DreamStation BiPAP AVAPS 30, which is not supported by the sleepyhead software. Are there any other software options?
