Resmed Lumis 100 - noise issue

Post by midnightpumpkin » Sat Aug 11, 2018 5:23 am

Hi everyone :-)

I've been on a CPAP for about 4 years and while it wasn't exactly an earth shattering improvement, I've always used the machine - all night, every night.

I started out on the Resmed S9 in 2014 and it's been my trusty companion, but my doc wanted me to switch to BiPAP, because she figured I had issues with clearing my lungs in the exhale. I am feeling better now than I did before!
But there's a big but!:

The new machine (Resmed Lumis 100) worked a treat for a few months and then broke. The motor was busted and it sounded like someone was strangling a cat next to my bed...
The replacement arrived and it made the same noise! At a much lower level, but very clearly a whirring noise in the rhythm of my breathing. So I called Resmed and asked for another replacement, because the second one was clearly faulty.
I received the third one two days ago and guess what?! Same noise!! Again at a lower level, but still there.

So I'm beginning to wonder if whether I'm just really sensitive to noise or if this is a flaw in the Lumis 100?!

Has anyone switched to that machine since it came out and had a similar issue? It's driving me nuts and for the first time in 4 years I'm tempted to skip treatment...
I need to ask for either another replacement or a different model... but I feel so much better with the BiPAP setting...!

(And before anyone suggests earplugs: I use them every night. The frequency of this noise cuts right through them!)

I think the OP is not in North America - from what I have gathered the Lumis 100 is an AirCurve with a name used in Asia and elsewhere. The only specific references I have seen related to location were in Australia and India plus one Chinese language manual.

You're right. I'm not.
Is that why the person above (or below depending on layout) said to disregard my post? Because I'm not North American? I don't get it. The forum doesn't say that it's geographically restricted...

And yes. Googling Aircurve brings up pictures that look an awful lot like my Lumis. So thanks for that. I can google for Aircurve info now and see if that comes up with reviews and decide from there.

I may be wrong, but what I think Granny was suggesting be disregarded was not your post, but rather her initial response which I think she edited.

Your location is important because of a silly game the cpap companies play.
Manufacturers rename cpap equipment used in different countries--
and do not issue scorecards so we can keep stuff straight.

Oooh... gotcha!
I don't actually see a second post from them, so that was weird ;-) Oh the glory of internet communication, huh? ;-)

Yeah. I was confused to find only few references to the Lumis, but that explains it. I would've expected the names to be the same in at least all English speaking markets, but apparently there's no such luck!

It seems that the Aircurve should be super quiet, so maybe it's just me being super sensitive to the frequency... I doubt that I've received three faulty machines right after one another... or that I've broken the other two within days... maybe I am doing something wrong... *sigh* it was all going so well and then they had to switch me to a new model! Whyyyyyy?!

chicago granny edited her own post. i would gather that she had second thoughts on what she originally wrote and deleted it.

i take it to mean we should disregard what she had written.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Manufacturers of *cars* name them differently in different countries.

Lots of things are called something else in another country, with other languages.

I have a lumis 100 ST and it is essentially silent, the same as the Airsense Autoset 10 and the S9 escape I have used

Even with the same language, different names are often used.
Sometimes to prevent less costly offshore products from being sold in a more lucrative market.
This happens with consumer goods all the time.
Many " offshore" products are off-warranty if sold in the US.
Retail is a very dirty business.
