Dreamwear Full Face Nose size

Post by Grace~~~ » Wed Aug 08, 2018 8:16 pm

Hello Kind and Knowledgeable Cpaptalk People.

I apologize for writing. I'm sure this answer is on here somewhere. I did watch an entire Jason video hoping to find the answer and then spent at least 40 minutes reading posts, but haven't come across the answer yet. I really would just like to place an order already and hoped I could simply ask for help even if this has been asked and answered before?

I am going to purchase the headgear and nose piece for the Dreamwear Full Face mask for when I have a cold and can't breath through my nose.

I currently use the small nose piece in the cushion style. However, most of the official advertising advice is still to start with the medium for the full face mask.

Has anyone found that they use a small in cushion but need the medium for the full mask?
Or would you just order the small in the full face mask?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank You.

You could always just get the FitPack and have 3 sizes...pick the size you like the best and swap the unwanted sizes or sell.

Philips Respironics DreamWear Full Face Mask Fitpack 1133400

But to answer your question. I used the Small under the nose cushion and the small in the gel pillows.
I got the fitpack...medium cushion would have been too big. I used the small when I tried it.

I found one of the FitPacks at Amazon.
Secondwindcpap.com also has some.

Thank you Pugsy.

I'll price the fitpack, but I am terrible at swapping and selling things. I have an unreasonable fear of shipping and of my horrible local Post Office.

I just don't understand why the headgear part is so expensive? Why aren't the Chinese knocking them off cheap? LOL
Those straps seem like they should cost $5.00 with free shipping.

...and the nose pieces should cost $10-$15.

I'm really looking forward to getting something for when I have a cold. I can't go a night without cPap now.
Wouldn't dream of it.

I bought a fit kit as Pugsy suggests.

I considered just buying the pieces to upgrade my Dreamwear nasal cushion, but you need both the full face cushion (which aren't that cheap separately) and new headgear with an extra two straps and clips for the lower part of the FF mask. Like you, I didn't know if I might need a different size full face cushion than nasal cushion. I found a factory new full face fit kit on-line for $89, with all four cushion sizes. The fit kit only comes in medium frame, which I already know works for me, so the lack of "mask insurance" from buying from a retailer other than cpap.com wasn't a big risk - I could still use the frame with my nasal cushions and could sell the un-tried cushion sizes on-line if I had to, or trade them here on the cushion swap thread.

(I've since bought the Brevida, but I ordered through cpap.com, because it comes with return insurance if it doesn't work for me, unlike my Dreamwear bargain basement find.)

I would be more concerned about the frame size. I couldn't use the medium frame at all...way too big for me.

My suggestion is get this from cpap.com
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... dgear.html
Get the small size cushion
It comes with a small and medium frame.
It has free return insurance.

A fair point. The OP is already using the Dreamwear nasal cushion version, so I would think they may know what frame size works for them already, and if it isn't the medium frame then the fit kit may not be a good buy for them. For me, the frame size fit for nasal cushion frame and FF cushion frame are the same, medium, so the fit kit with its assortment of cushions and medium fram met my needs. (I use a size up in frame for the nasal pillows because they are elevated above the height of the nasal cushions, so need the larger frame to lower the pillows cushion.)

Check EBay since you already have the frame
for the cushion and the headgear.

I am betting small cushion....

I am still trying to get the DWFFM work for me. My main problem, I think, it my face to thin for the mask. While it fits fine straight on, if I turn my head it pokes up and then the rat-a-tat-tat starts.

So if your face is thin(ish) start with a small cushion.

You will probably like the DWFFM it is quite light and comfortable. I get a lower AHI with it for some reason.

The cushions are all the same size. They only differ in the depth of the cushion and the size of the holes on top of the cushion where it makes contact with the bottom of the nose. Cushion size is determined by the size of your nose.

The mouth apertures are very similar but not all the same size. My aperture on my small full face cushion is 2 and 1/4" wide, the M/W is 2 7/16" and my large, which is deeper for more nose room, is 2 5/16". My measurements may not be perfect, but holding the Large and the Medium Wide together, they are clearly different widths at the aperture. Subtle, but definitely different.

The photo shows the M/W and the L. You can see that the M/W really does have a wider mouth aperture, not just a wider aperture for the nostrils.

WOW ... Thank you guys SO MUCH!

I just got back to my computer and I can't wait to really study what you've said here. AND PICTURES TOO! Awesome!
Seriously, this is the most helpful group of people I know of on or off the internet!

I wish I had a place like this to go for all of my issues. LOL

To paraphrase Jay-Z
"I might have 99 problems but CPAP aint one"

Thank you again!

I'll definitely post about my experience when I get my mask (or mask pieces).
I've never tried a full face mask (or nasal pillows) but unfortunately I've got a weakened immune system and that means more than my share of colds. I really need to find a way to breath with my cpap when my nose is clogged and I am really hopeful about the Dreamwear Fullface mask! I just wish this stuff wasn't so expensive. :(

In Canada the lowest price I can find for a DWFF cushion is $65. I am hoping the prices will drop when its been out longer.

If found it on ebay for $29US but shipping, customs and exchange basically double the price.
