Distilled water

Post by LinkC » Sat Aug 04, 2018 4:19 pm

If I change water every night, do I need to use distilled?

No.

The worst that will happen is gradually you might get some mineral scale build up on the inside of the water chamber. How much and how fast depends on how "hard" your water is.
It's easily removed with a vinegar or lemon juice soak.

Personally, I prefer to use distilled water. Sometimes, we find drinking water that has a slightly off smell when we travel. I would not want to smell that all night long. When we travel, we just pick up a gallon of distilled at the nearest store that has it.

Fun Fact: in other countries, the users manual just says "Use water".... not "use distilled water"... the distilled water thing is just for convenience.

Nobody "has" to use distilled water, as long as you don't mind slightly more frequent cleaning.
Even exclusive use of DW will not mean you never need to wash the tank.
Do what makes you happy--outside of quitting cpap, that is.

Yep. Letting the APAP take care of the night shift. Haven't even looked at my numbers as long as I feel OK.

Spoiling the grandkids, then sending them home. Lol

Based on a recent post I got some distilled water from the supermarket very cheap! It doesn't seem to leave any deposits so, being the lazy arse that I am I don't have to worry about cleaning the tank every month.

I've been using deionized water from the pharma lab where I worked for 30 years in my H5i reservoir. Company got bought and I found myself on early retirement. So I no longer had access to free DI water. So I picked up a bottle of Arrowhead Distilled Water at the supermarket.

After about half the bottle was used, I cleaned out the humidifier reservoir and found it was coated with mineral scale. Either the bottle was mislabeled or, well, something.

Tell them to stop washing their Arrowheads in the distilled water. Jim

I thought having to work in a small cubicle was bad, but that must have been horrible.

That sounds kind of suspicious. Seems like the water wouldn't pass even the most basic electrical resistance QA test if the mineral content is that high, by which I mean it sounds negligent on the part of the bottler if your experience wasn't some weird outlier.

Yeah, I seem to have left out a couple of commas there . . .
