Air pressure blowing my lips open

Post by clenchingtobreathe » Wed Jul 25, 2018 9:29 am

So this is a new quirk for me after 10 days on CPAP. For the first time last night, I didn't feel like a nervous wreck about the mask....fell asleep pretty quickly but kept waking up DRY...even with humidifier set on 7!! At some point in early morning, I repeatedly woke up with air pushing my lips open to escape and miserably dry. I was so exhausted, I just used a good mouth moisturizing spray and went back to sleep. It seems like this happened 5 or 6 times in a row. Should I be conscious of changing sleep positions (like I did when snoring) when this happens? Is that a decent alternative to putting anything else on my face right now? Why am I doing this??? Here's a snapshot of the night...

Looks to me like you are going to have to set your max to around 7 or tape your lips, or go with a full face mask. Hopefully someone with more experience of this issue will have a better plan.

Limiting pressure should be the last resort.

A soft headband over the lips helps, and many people have success with a boil and bite mouth guard.

You mean I need to put different issues all on my original thread? If the original subject was about teeth clenching and this is something different than that subject, how will anyone know it's there? Just curious...

I find if my tongue is placed correctly, at the roof of my mouth, then little or no air wants to escape through my lips. But my anatomy may be different from yours.

You can change the title in the first post.

People will know there's something you posted because there's a little rec flag on new posts, and it's at the top of the list.

Is that your expert opinion after spending years here helping hundreds of people with their cpaps?

How much time have you wasted trying to dig up info about something someone said that is related to their new question, even though they don't know it? Or something about their setup/situation that may be relevant?

There's a good reason that people here prefer a person's issues to be kept together, whether you understand it or not.

You didn't do fine.

AHA! Makes sense! What with learning about CPAP AND the forum, I'm having information IO! (information overload) It'll probably show up on my Sleepyhead report!

Jumping all over people for how they post isn't helping. If you are so stressed about it, maybe take a break.

You've got a very weird and unconventional idea about what constitutes "jumping all over people".

It's a *COMMON* request from people who're here to help others, unlike yourself.

search.php?keywords=%22one+thread%22

You gonna start bitching out everybody that makes that request, or do you have some kind of axe to grind?

No, I'm just going to take my own advice and ignore you.

Newbies often have multiple questions and it does help us when the newbie keeps the bulk of the questions all in one thread even if the topics are widely varied. We can easily look back and see who said what and when and it makes our job easier, faster and better.
It's not an earth shattering event if they don't keep it to one thread but most of us here don't have all the time in the world to go digging in past threads to see what might have already been discussed or offered.
So what does happen is if I am short on time...I simply don't respond. I might have the greatest idea in the world but not mention it.

Now....3 to 6 months from now...yeah start a new thread/topic.

Anytime you post in a thread that you started (or really in any thread) the forum has a way of notifying us that a new unread post is available to read. We won't miss it....even if you wait a year and post in this thread here...we will get a little alert than a new post has been made in this thread. It's easy to see...the little red tablet thing on the left of your subject...hover you mouse on it and you will see it say "unread post".

PR wasn't jumping on anyone...he was just making a request that I have made often myself.
Trust me..when he "jumps" on someone we all can plainly see it.

What kind of headband are we talking about and where can i get one? I've recently been having trouble with my mouth opening here lately. Never had this problem in 12 years but after losing almost 40 lbs I'm waking exhausted and with my mouth wide open. I've heard people say get a soft neck brace to keep your jaw shut but that seems uncomfortable.
