10 days on CPAP. Feeling fresh and ready to go.
Hi all,
Been on CPAP for 10 days now. Attached is last night's SH report. It has been consistent like this for the past 5 days. I made a slight change in my pillow. I used to sleep on an almost flat pillow and the AHI with the machine used to hover around 1.5-2.0. So I decided to experiment with two pillow instead of one and boom. AHI under 1 consistently. Very happy so far.
I ride about 60 miles each Sunday and been doing that in the hills near silicon valley for the past 6 years and never have I felt so much energy climbing a 12% grade. I did not stop once. I hit personal records climbing. This is all due to my CPAP and better sleep and better O2 sat I believe. Anyway, wanted to thank you all for setting me on the right path to success. I will continue on this path and reap the benefits of better quality of life.

Re: 10 days on CPAP. Feeling fresh and ready to go.
Congrats on your success. It's good to hear that a new user is experiencing benefit from xPAP therapy. Usually all we hear about is when users are disappointed, or are threatening to give up. The other newbies here need to hear from folks like you that are seeing benefit. Otherwise, many will become discouraged and give up. Honestly, many post here with attitudes that indicate they might be looking for an excuse to do so.
For what it's worth, I'm like you. The morning after my first night on CPAP, I felt refreshed, bouyant and ready to take on the world. That was more than 7 years ago. I can count on the fingers of one hand the nights that I have slept without my machine.
May you always feel like you do now.

That doesn't sound right, you were able to use your XPAP without letting your feelings stop you! Glad to hear it's going well. You were born with the CAN Gene, please pass it on.

Other than your min pressure being too low... (your pressure line is very active and almost always jumps back up before it gets down to the min pressure you've set) things are looking good..jamesbond007 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 23, 2018 9:39 amHi all,

Congratulations, that's great to hear! Out of curiosity, what position do you sleep in? And how many days into your 10 so far, would you say you started to notice the benefits? (I.e. did you wake after the first night feeling noticeabley better? Or was in more days into the process?)
Hopefully you will continue to reap even further benefits over time!

I contemplated raising the min and max pressure but the AHI I am currently getting is under 1 consistently. So didn't bother changing. I will try changing it for science.palerider wrote: ↑Mon Jul 23, 2018 11:15 amOther than your min pressure being too low... Good lord. I wish. Mine has been a nightmare since day one. Not giving up, though. In process of changing Doctors, which is just another part of my many adventures.

Night 1 - AHI was 0.89 but that is because I did not sleep. I had to get used to the mask. The AHI was low because I barely slept. Obviously, I woke up with a terrible headache.
Night 2 - Got accustomed to the mask. AHI was 1.5
Night 3 - Didn't feel the mask but the AHI was 2.5
Night 4 - This is where I decided to experiment by adding an extra pillow to raise my head by about 2 inches. AHI down to 0.89. Woke up with a little bit is stiff neck. Neck needs time to adjust to the new head position.
Night 5 - Same. AHI 0.6
.
.
.
Night 10 - AHI 0.37. Still, have a little bit of stiff neck but nothing bothersome.
I prefer to sleep on my back. But, over the years I learned to compensate my snoring by sleeping on the left side. Why left? I have a deviated septum and somehow feel better if I sleep on the left. So, I tend to turn to the left a few times every night and then shoulder hurts and I am back on my back.

I started feeling better after about day 3. I don't feel the need to drink coffee during the day anymore. My eyes won't feel droopy. I used to gasp for air a lot even while sitting and talking to people. I don't do that anymore. Of course, my hill climbing ability on my bike improved tremendously. Previously after a 60-mile ride on the hills, I used to feel like crap. Now I have some energy left to play with my daughter after my ride. My muscle recovery during the night when I sleep after my ride has improved tremendously. Previously I used to feel soreness for about 2 days and I used to feel restless after the ride. But I woke up this morning and felt nothing. That is what motivated me to post the original message.

Do you use the SleepyHead software? I read elsewhere on this forum that you needed an SD Card reader (Apologies if it is not you). Anyway, the stock software that came with my resmed is useless. SleepHead is the way to go. Ton of data to fine tune the treatment.SirGaspAlot wrote: ↑Mon Jul 23, 2018 12:11 pmGood lord. I wish. Mine has been a nightmare since day one. Not giving up, though. I do, just on a work computer so I'm unable to use it at the moment. I guess last night was hideous. Ill see when I get home.jamesbond007 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 23, 2018 12:34 pmDo you use the SleepyHead software?
