What I have been doing wrong this whole time...

Post by joeljjk11 » Fri Jul 20, 2018 2:12 pm

Word of advice to anyone newer to CPAP or even experienced people...do not overtighten your mask.

I did more research into masks and how to wear them and realized mine was extremely tight. I had the classic "pig nose" when I looked in the mirror with my mask on and it was causing sores in my nose and marks on my face. I loosened my mask significantly and my AHI numbers have been drastically better, between 6-7 every night this week. This is very good for me as usually they are between 10-14 every night. My leakage has been pretty much fine and either nonexistent or very minimal so this is also good.

Has anyone else experienced something similar to this?

Snug. Not tight. Not loose.

im a noob but it makes sense
because adjusting the mask too tight
pulls your lower jaw back with it
into the space cpap is trying to clear
i would think

Snug. Not tight. Not loose.
Also, not uneven (i.e. off center). Additionally, pay attention to the relative tightness of the upper and lower straps. For instance, before tightening the upper straps, consider loosening the lower straps and vice-versa.
