PS or Pressure support is just the difference between inhale and exhale.

On a bilevel machine there is 2 distinct pressures...one for inhale and one for exhale. The difference between the 2 is called pressure support.

Example.....
Inhale is 12 cm
Exhale is 8 cm
that would make PS 4
Lots of options available depending on PS is fixed or can vary and that depends on brand of bilevel machine and if auto adjusting mode is available or not.

Actually anytime there is a distinct difference between inhale and exhale pressure support is involved even if using cpap/apap machines that don't necessarily have 2 distinct settings available.
Using exhale relief creates a bilevel situation..it's just more limited on cpap/apap machines.

To expand on Pugsy's comment (yeah, I know, that almost never happens.)

Bilevel pressures are typically noted in one of two ways:

IPAP/EPAP, such as 18/15 or EPAP and PS, like EPAP 15, PS 3... those are two different references for the same pressures.

Now, auto bilevel machines almost always use the latter, with MinEPAP, MaxIPAP, and PS (which can vary in some machines), and the two pressures will vary between those limits... always separated by whatever the PS is.
