Resmed Cleaning, remove elbow from hose?

Post by blakesq » Mon Jul 16, 2018 6:55 pm

Hi all, I am currently using the airfit F 20 full face mask for my resmed s9 machine. I love the mask, it works so much better than the previous version of the mask. However, I wonder about my cleaning regimen. Normally I remove the hose from my CPAP machine, and also remove the elbow from one end of the hose, for my weekly cleaning.

However I have noticed that the hose seems to develop leaks near the ends Where the hose slides onto the CPAP machine and or the elbow. Is removing the elbow causing too much damage to the hose, so that it develops a holes in it? My question is: “should I be removing the elbow from the hose when I do my weekly cleaning?” Thanks in advance.

Normally, I only clean the mask cushions on a weekly basis. I clean the frame, head gear, strap pads and water reservoir monthly. If your hose end is stretched out so much it won't keep a good connection, some people wrap tape tightly around the hose end, or even wrap a small amount around the portion of the elbow that goes into the hose.

I use an elbow at the connecting point from the machine and always scrub the full length of the hose when I clean the mask and waterreservoir, and I typically use my hose for maybe 2 years. My elbow connector makes a firm no-leak fit to the machine outlet, but I have put a simple automotive worm type clamp on the hose "boot" because with repeated removals it becomes loose sometimes. The clamp is easily removable from the hose boot to allow bassin a long bristle brush through the hose for cleaning with warm soapy water. I realize that some people in our forum insist that a hose never needs cleaning, but I prefer to do it this way.

I don't bother cleaning my hose... I don't think it does anything worthwhile, other than CYA the medical people, ... and vigorous cleaning seems to wear stuff out faster. Not saying you shouldn't, just that many people who've been at it for a few years, don't bother that much anymore. Wiping the mask cushion down is something I do nightly, just to get a better seal.
