Switched from CPAP to BIPAP

Post by kawman » Mon Jul 09, 2018 1:28 pm

My sleep doctor just switched me from a CPAP machine that I have been using for a year to a BIPAP , is there a so called “learning curve “ for learning how to inhale and exhale with this machine?

Regarding a learning curve during transition from CPAP to BiPAP- if you are accustomed to CPAP there should be no difficulty whatever in going to BiPAP. In
my own case, I had used CPAP for 12 or 13 years when a new doctor raised my pressure from 10 to 14 and indicated that I would find exhaling a bit more comfortable with BiPAP. I never experienced any discomfort, and indeed, it was a bit more comfortable with BiPAP of 14/10. Presently, after about 22 years with BiPAP, I am now back to using CPAP only at a pressure of 10.

Good catch! 34 years takes up back to the early 1980's! The first CPAP patient was in 1980, and there were about 100 by 1985 in Australia (not sure if there were any elsewhere at that time). Currently there are several million world-wide.

That is unless the OP mean that the 12 or 13 years are somehow included in the 22 (which is not what a plain reading of that posting says).
