Hi, This is a great site - thanks for the resource.
I need help.
I just put on a sleep study and its a huge benefit! I actually feel about 8" taller.
My question is this.
In Ontario I can get $750 toward a CPAP machine, for a machine through channels.
My doctor has put me on an Apap test (uncovered) and I have had 4 days with a Remstar Auto. I have no Idea how it is programmed what its profile is etc... I have a high prescription 10???
There seems to be a conspiracy to keep me from getting any information.
Yesterday before the 2nd sleep study the nurse tole me that no breathing place would ever sell an APAP over a CPAP because they have to sell them at the same price and the company would lose money.
After 4 days on the machine they want to move me to a CPAP with ERM? or Cflex?
I have no point of comparison or experience to pick out a machine and I'm worried I'll get the wrong one. I believe Health care only covers one every 5 years. I don't want the wrong one.
What are the benefits of an APAP? What should I be looking for?
Bo

APAP vs CPAP
Welllllll, AutoPAPs are nice as they can be run as a straight CPAP and it sounds like from your titration study they pretty much hit your "sweet spot" of pressure(s) since you felt so great that morning.
On the other hand, especially for those who did NOT sleep well during their titration study and most likely didn't find their "sweet spot" of pressure an AutoPAP "could" save them several months of diddling around w/their pressures to find that "sweet spot" and save further titration studies at the lab.
Even Canadians can purchase xPAP equipment online thru cpap.com so check out their prices on a RemStar Auto w/C-Flex and any other necessary equipment.
Here in the US the DME's might not like it, BUT, IF our sleep doc orders a specific machine and that machine happens to be an AutoPAP, too bad so sad for the DME, that is what he must supply, the specific xPAP, Auto or otherwise. I don't know Canada's policy on that. We do have some Canadians here who hopefully will see your post and jump in and give you their advice on this issue.

In Canada you can get a either a CPAP or APAP with a CPAP prescription. My provider, Medigas, for example sells both for the exact same price! Problem is that they don't tell you this up front and will try to give you the cheapest CPAP possible. I would insist on an APAP especially since you have been on one and doing well for the trial. They will try to talk you out of it but stand your ground!Slinky wrote:. We do have some Canadians here who hopefully will see your post and jump in and give you their advice on this issue.
