Goodbye Respironics
Goodbye Respironics
After a number of months with the S9 VAuto, which I bought to replace the DS760 BiPAP as my main machine, I have decided to go all Resmed. I missed out on LSATs bargain Aircurve10 VAuto but knowing him it went to someone more deserving than me and that's how it should be.
However, this made me think about what I really needed and I decided to take advantage of Secondwind's sale of gently used Aircurve 10 Auto machines. A machine is on it's way as I type and for a good price. I've got long service leave coming up next year and I've already booked my flight to the UK. I think the Resmed will be easier to carry - I like the way that the humidifier slides into the machine thus reducing the footprint. I'll take this with me when I go but for my usual trips around OZ the S9 will become my travel machine. I just find the Resmed to be so much more comfortable to use and it seems to give me lower numbers though not by much. The only area where the Respironics is possibly superior is the way that you can vary the pressure support.
That leaves me with a low hours DS760 which I might advertise locally to see what I can get. I've also got a PRS560 APAP but it doesn't have a humidifier thought that not's really a problem here on the humid Gold Coast.
A couple of thoughts. Would removing the humidifier and putting in the plate really save me that much space? As I haven't seen an Air series Respirionics in the flesh I don't know but if it could fit in my travel/flight backpack as well as the humidifierless 760 that would be a major plus.

Re: Goodbye Respironics
You wouldn't save much in space by using the face place instead of the water chamber. Maybe 2 inches or so (can't find anything to measure the length with at the moment). Certainly no where near cutting in half like going with Respironics and unhooking the humidifier will give.
My 760 is out on loan to a family friend or I would get a pic of the 2 side by side for you.
The bulk of the water chamber is inside the machine and only a small portion of it sticks out when inserted.
I will look for a tape measure or ruler and see if I can get you an exact measurement with and without the water chamber in place.
Will report back when I find one.

Hi Pugsy,
There is a water chamber cover for the ResMed in the package you just received. Perhaps you could measure that for the OP.

Yeah, my problem is finding something to measure with. I have a dozen tape measures...somewhere but none that I can find at the moment. Hubby hid them.MurrayNevada wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 7:57 amHi Pugsy,

I suspect if space is really a problem that the S9 will be the greatest space saver if someone leaves the detachable humidifier at home.
We just don't save much space by using the face plate because not much of the water chamber actually sticks out. About half my index finger and I have ultra small hands.

At the widest point it sticks out 2 inches. The machine without the humidifier installed is about 7 1/2 Inches wide which Makes it 9 1/2 Inches wide with the humidifier chamber installed

You have a tape measure in your sewing supplies? i doubt your hubby ransacked that too.Pugsy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 8:28 amYeah, my problem is finding something to measure with. MikeI suspect so that I won't be starting any DIY projects.

I am on the road in a hotel room so I cannot measure mine.

Re: Goodbye Respironics
When you find a few of the tape measures, hang a couple of them on wire clothes hangers, you will be able to find one when you need one, and it's possible they might even start breeding like wire hangers also. You are assuming that because I am female that I might sew. Wrong assumption.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 9:37 amYou have a tape measure in your sewing supplies? i doubt your hubby ransacked that too.![]()

I don't have anything but maybe a needle and thread somewhere.
My tape measures are all of the DIY contractor kind that are metal.
I do have a ruler somewhere but can't find it either.
I see that someone else measured so I don't have to look anymore.
Just as well...looks like I am going to have a bad weekend....the air conditioner is now blowing hot air instead of cold air and it was fine a couple of hours ago.
Filter changed just 3 days ago. Crap...and it's going to get HOT this weekend.
I now have something else to worry about besides my missing tape measures...all of them.

I learned to sew in the Marine Corps. Every Marine is issued a sewing kit.

Oh, I know how to sew and use to do a lot of it. I just don't want to do it now so I don't have anything to do it with.MurrayNevada wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 10:30 amI learned to sew in the Marine Corps. Every Marine is issued a sewing kit.
I would much rather lay tile or paint or redo floors.
Next project...paint the laundry room walls and then pull up the laminate flooring and replace with vinyl planking.
Hard to pain with no A/C though. It's already hot in here but the repair guy said he will be here late this afternoon.

To the OP:
I'm very happy with my Respironics machine.
However, there's no "one size fits all." I've only had Respironics, AeioMed (now out of business), and F&P machines, so I can't comment on ResMed machines. However, I'm sure they're fine.

My Airsense travel case has a separate compartment for the tank;
so I carry my P10 mask in the hollow space,
and put a wadded up paper towel inside of the tank to absorb any remaining water.

That is a brilliant idea! I usually take my machine onto the plane in my backpack, and always have the mask, hose and fittings in there as well (leaving the humidifier in my checked luggage).chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 12:28 pmMy Airsense travel case has a separate compartment for the tank;

Since the cpap case is a free carryon, I prefer not playing baggage handler roulette.
