Do I need respiratory therapist to set my cpap machine

Post by MyCpap197601 » Thu May 10, 2018 10:05 am

Hello guys this might be a silly question but I want to know if i can set my cpap pressure by myself. I found some information on how to do it. The place i went i buy it from. They had respiratory therapist guy who set up the pressure on the machine and gave it to me.

So, My question is can I change (reset) my cpap device pressure. Or are only respiratory therapist guys are allowed to do it?

There is no law preventing you from changing your machine to any setting you like. Post up a daily graph from sleepyhead and we can see if some optimisations would help.

Everyone here has done it for decades and the Cpap police have yet to jail them. Don't let your DME, techs or doctors tell you anything else.

Shure you can change your pressure yourself but why do you think
you need to change your pressure ? If you haven't done so you might
want to download Sleepyhead and see how your current setting is
doing before changing things.

Hi! I understand your concern. A little while ago, talking with a supplier, was said to me that I coudn't have access to some information generated by the CPAP, that it would be available only to my doctor. I didn't understand why too...

That's wrong - they like to have control over your therapy, but it is YOUR therapy and you can change it but may need our help to do so - feel free to ask.

As the owner of the machine, you can do your own settings. The law applies to those who are NOT the patient. In most states, people other than the patient (or patient's family) have to have doctor's orders in order to make changes on the pressure. Depending on the state, it does not necessarily have to be a PT, but they can't make changes that don't match a doctor's order. A lot of DMEs misunderstand the law when they say it's illegal for you to change your own settings.

FWIW, in MN, a PT, nurse or DME owner can make changes to your settings (all with doctor's orders). A secretary at a DME can't. Patient and family members have no restrictions. When I sold my S9 autoset, I just set it to 6-20 and told the buyer how to change the settings. I technically can't set it to his prescription.

I have been doing it for years.
My doctors all know about it.
I have never been visited by the "cpap police" (no such thing--FYI)
Any DME who disagrees does not get my business.

The first thing you need to know is how your machine works. You can get a copy of your clinical manual here. https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual Follow their instructions and they will email one to you.
After learning about your machine, you need to know IF changes are needed, and you can do this by monitoring your data from the SD card with software. Here is a site to help you learn how to download Sleepyhead. https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead
While you are at the TNET site click through all his links. Lots of helpful information.
