Hi All
I am relatively new to the CPAP world.
I recently received a prescription to have a pressure of 8 as the doctors mentioned that was optimal for my REM sleep
I received a Dreamstation Go Auto, but the auto pressure hovers around 5.5 only.
Is there a way to increase the minimum pressure at home? I have seen online instructions for the normal dream station but never for the Go version.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance
Dreamstation Go pressure setting change
Re: Dreamstation Go pressure setting change
Philips-Respironics DreamStation Go CPAP
Request the above clinical manual from this website and it will explain how to change pressure settings.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
Instructions for requesting manuals via email are about 2/3 down the page.
Though you may be okay with current settings. It may be that the machine only needs to go to 8 cm during REM and the settings already in place may allow the machine to change as needed. It may be that the 5.5 works well and then it goes to 8 cm during REM if the settings are in place to allow it. You don't necessarily have to use 8 cm all night just to deal with the 20% of the night you are in REM.

Re: Dreamstation Go pressure setting change
Thank you very much!
Your response got me thinking. Would having a constant pressure of 8 induce more REM sleep? Or is your phase of sleep is independent of how much air you are taking in? I realize this may sound a little stupid but very new to the world of sleep science.
If it is the case that the level of pressure can impact your sleep cycle and the doctor prescribed me 8 due as I had more REMs, should that theoretically produce better sleep because you have more REM sleep per night?
Thanks

No. You don't necessarily get more REM stage sleep with more pressure.
REM is just part of the normal sleep cycles and you have to go through the cycles and their nice normal progression and in the usual percentage of time involved in each stage for the restorative powers of sleep to work their magic.
You really can't dictate or have much of an input as to how much of each sleep stage you might get other than do the normal usual stuff to facilitate sleep itself.
At best you want to use a pressure that keeps the airway open and lets a person get good solid sleep with minimal disruptions and let the normal sleep cycle progression do its thing.
It's not something like where if 10 cm lets a person sleep good that using 20 cm means they sleep twice as good. Doesn't work that way.
More pressure can actually cause problems sometimes....like air in the belly or making leaks harder to manage.
