Newbie - Keep waking up all night w/APAP
Newbie - Keep waking up all night w/APAP
Hi folks - I am pretty comfortable w/my APAP now, after 4 weeks on/off acclimation. I fall asleep ok, if a little delayed. And the last few days I've kept it on for 7+ hours. Mask is fine.
But I am still CONSTANTLY waking up all night with it - I can't count, but probably a dozen times or more, just a barely conscious, then back to sleep.
Its exhausting.
My facebook support group has suggested switching on Expiratory Pressure Relief (which I have), narrowing the APAP range (which I have), examining my data w/Sleepyhead to determine the right range (which I have - about 7-9cm), but generally just toughing it out is the most frequent advice.
Can I hear from people who went through what I did, who have success stories? Would really help.
Thx!!

Please fill in your equipment profile. You stated that you have an automatic. Most automatics are data capable, though I'be been advised not always. Assuming that you have data capabilities, you can analyze how you are sleeping and see what affect changing the settings has.

I've posted my equipmentD.H. wrote: ↑Mon May 07, 2018 6:43 amPlease fill in your equipment profile. You stated that you have an automatic. As I said, I have downloaded my data to analyze w/Sleepyhead, and used that to determine my optimal pressure (7-9), though of course I may have it wrong.
I guess I could delve more into the software to better analyze how I'm sleeping, but aside from seeing one or two apneas (which may be/probably are false positives), the data seemed to show I was breathing fine all night. If there's other things I can look in the data to uncover my issue, I am all ears!!
Thanks for the quick reply
Re: Newbie - Keep waking up all night w/APAP
What do your flow limitation graphs look like?
Do you take any medications of any kind and if so, what?
How many times do you think you are waking up during the night?

Dunno how to get a graph - but here's the stats for last night below. Other nights also say zero

Just zyrtec for lingering allergies
Subjectively it feels like a dozen or more.

Pardon the obnoxious self-bump...
Here’s an update & plea for perspective or advice from anyone...
-Still constantly waking in 2nd half of night (after 3am pee)
-CPAP compliance & success is 100% (0 AHI, wear it all night)
-Sleep Dr had usucessfully had me try several dopamine meds on the theory of RLS or PMLD. Even trained a camera on me all night to catch limb movements. Nothing
-ENT found mild reflux, now on my 2nd week of nightly Zantac
-Full recent blood panel was perfect
-Next up is a narcolepsy study in September, tho I have no other symptoms besides this “sleep maintenance insomnia”
-My gf has chronic Lyme, mono virus, lupus and other shit. She’s worried she’s given me something, since I am fit, thin, athletic & slept perfectly before I met her. I doubt his but am seeking an infections diseases doc to rule this out
I’m at my wits end! I’m so tantalizingly close to fixing this

started cpap a few weeks ago
some nights i seem to sleep well and have a great next day
but most nights i sleep well the first half of the night
and then i wake up the second half, like you
im unable to analyze whats going on right now because the computer i was
using for sleepyhead is no longer here
i ordered an sd card adapter so i can use it on this computer
the only other explanations i have for myself is it could possibly be something with my diet
like not enough protein
i read something that said not enough protein can prevent a person from staying in deep sleep
as your body will try to wake you up to forage for more
im trying to find a link between the nights that i sleep well and im going to see if its protein within the next few days
not saying this is your case, but just sharing my experience
could just be im not at the right pressure, we'll see

Re: Newbie - Keep waking up all night w/APAP
Interesting Zach. Feel free to borrow from my trials and errors too, if the diet thing doesn’t fix things. I’ve been keto carnivore for a while so protein sure ain’t the issue, but also experimented for a bit going back on high carb which didn’t help the sleep issue. But electrolyte and micro nutrients I’ve heard can def disturb sleep.

Not at all obnoxious.
In a post here recently, someone stated that taking magnesium supplement helped with their sleep. May want to do some research on this.

Yeah I've tried that too! Perhaps I should try again...
Re: Newbie - Keep waking up all night w/APAP
true, i do low carb paleoish/ketoish so that certainly could be a possibility, ill try to keep up on my electrolytes and see if thats the case as wellbensommer wrote: ↑Sun Jul 08, 2018 8:17 amInteresting Zach.
