I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!....i called and asked if they could tell me what machine I was being prescribed...i'm getting a straight cpap machine...no auto!!...I just knew somehow I was gonna get some basic shit....they did say it will be the Resmed with a set pressure of 14cmH2O...I just can't win...I asked for copies of everything and they told me they are not allowed to give me those that I have to go to the main hosipital that they are affiliated with to do that....I called them, they told me to go to a website and log on, and make a request, but of course, it's asking me for all kinds of information that I don't know or have....I'm sick of this.
That is not unique to you. They always do that unless you have a specific discussion with your doctor. I was lucky and my doctor was already going to prescribe a dream station but not the auto model with humidity and heated tube. Those they consider luxury items. I had a talk with the doctor and told him I would definitely need the ramping feature. He changed the prescription. The other items I paid for since I did not go through insurance. Shop the machine hard because prices vary a lot.
I did tell them I was disappointed that I wasn't getting the autoset....but they assured me that I would get all the same features as the autoset except the auto part...i'll get the heated hose, humidity and what not....they said that if it appeared to them that I was having issues then I have the option of getting a different machine...if needed....they said that after my titration that I would be good with just one set pressure of 14cm....well I tried it last night on the autoset that i'm borrowing...and my AHI this morning was 7.9...worst i've had since i started....but, I was having a lot of issues with the mask i was using...Dreamwear FFM....i gave it another shot...i'm done with that one....I fought leaks all night long.

Anyhoo...when they call me and i go in, and if I see a brick then I will refuse it.

Go back to your Dr and tell him you feel more comfortable with an Autoset and it has been the machine giving you the results that have been working best for you.. There shouldn't be an issue switching the script up a little, even call and ask them to have the changes emailed or faxed over. Also the place giving you the brick won't want hours running up a machine you'll be trading in again always ...

That $120 deal on the Autoset would be worth grabbing right away . Won't be seeing that kinda price coming up often..

OH I grabbed it...He's supposed to mail it off today, or tomorrow at the latest.

*update*

I just got off the phone with Carecentrix, who is covering my equipment...they did get my prescription..I asked if they could tell me the DME and exactly what machine i'm getting....the prescription says it's for an Autopap...so, maybe I will be getting one afterall....I also called my Gen Pracitce Dr who gave me the referral, and her office got copies of my sleep study/tiration results...carecentrix said that my prescription should be on the titration result packet....I pick them up after work :)

The thing to remember is that you don't *HAVE* to take anything except what you want.

The DME has a vested interest in screwing you over by pushing the cheapest thing they possibly can, because they get paid the same amount for any non-bilevel cpap, whether it's a brick, or a full auto machine... so don't take their shit, insist on what you want.

They told me it was a smart one, it will have the sd card slot and will monitor all the data....so I at least hope its the Elite....
Some doctors assume SD card means full data. Some just don't care.

The DMEs will lie and say that the card means data, but they won't tell you that ALL machines these days have a card...to record compliance data.

That won't help you if you have trouble with the settings and need to have adjustments. You need to be able to see the leak data, the ahi (broken into categories), etc.

Accept the Elite or Autoset, but NOT the regular cpap.

Be sure that your machine is an AirSENSE Autoset,
NOT an AirSTART Auto--which is NOT the higher quality machine I would ever accept.
Both are made by ResMed, and have similar names for suspicious reasons. 8)

I don't think the AirStart machines are even being sold in North America anymore ... Also sure he's going for the same model machine he's using atm on loan from Pugsy ... at least I hope so.......

Those model names are so similar, sure many people have got the brick model from horrible DMEs

Not only are the names similar, both machines have the same SHAPE!

Resmed appears to promote dishonesty!
The NERVE!

Right! And so many newly diagnosed not knowing a thing may snatch one up seeing they are cheaper and later realizing they'd been had by ResMed at that ... oh man!
