I think you have to think of it not as needing a machine to breathe while asleep, rather you need a splint to hold open your airway so you can breathe better while you are asleep. It is a CAPA, not a ventilator. I also have not managed to train myself to keep my mouth shut while sleeping, ( struggle with that during the day too, but that's a different issue). I find a soft cervical collar more comfortable than a chinstrap, and it helps my neck feel better from a long-ago ski injury.Sean19 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 5:58 pmHi Ted,
I was hoping I could train myself to keep my mouth closed during the night. It was very hard for me to admit there was a problem (sleeping) and swallow the fact that i now need to rely on a machine to better my health... I will tell you my nose breathing is getting better and I know that only because I am noticing scents around me that I hadn't in the past.

In Resmed world according to the manuals the n20 should be set as pillows and not nasal in the mask settings

Your sample screen shows that too. I hope you changed your mask setting to nasal first.Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 6:37 pmGood catch. I missed that.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 6:29 pmDoes Sleepyhead interpret the Nasal Mask setting as pillows?
I notice Pugsy’s and the original screens show Pillows instead of Nasal Mask.
SleepyHead might have it wrong or he might have the wrong mask choice in the clinical setup menu.
OP needs to go into the clinical menu setup area and confirm the mask type selection...and it should be "nasal" for the N20.
It may affect the leak graph...and might be part of the reason for the elevated leak numbers.
I don't think it will make all the large leaks go away but it should help reduce them just a bit with the calculations it does prior to reporting excess leak.
From past experience when I have had the wrong mask type selection in the menu...maybe 3 L/min difference.

Sean...if you don't know how to change the mask type.....this manual will explain how.
I suggest you download it anyway because it has more info in it than the typical user manual.

Re: Please Interperet My Data
Is that documented in the N20 literature? I must admit I have not used a nasal mask but am just aware of the menu settings on my AirSense 10 AutoSet.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 11:28 pmIn Resmed world according to the manuals the n20 should be set as pillows and not nasal in the mask settings

Re: Please Interperet My Data
The setting shows the most current setting...it doesn't show what might have been used on an individual night if I was trying a different kind of mask. Settings are general settings and not necessarily reflective of minor changes in one night.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Thu Apr 26, 2018 4:25 amYour sample screen shows that too. Like when I tried the DreamWear full face mask...I forgot to change it the first night...second night I changed it and that's how I spotted very minor difference in the baseline leak with the mask setting change.
But once the FFM experiment was over I switched back to pillows and those FFM reports now show pillows because that's the setting now.
Not sure if mask setting change will show up in the "changes in prescription" area...never thought about it.
The DreamWear is on its way back to me and I plan to try it again with other modifications to try to get it more stable. I will pay closer attention to the mask setting this time.
My past experience with ResMed mask selection...big whoopie. I don't think it is that critical of an issue one way or the other but that's just my opinion based on having the wrong mask selected when doing experiments and not being able to spot any real repercussions from it. The worst thing that I ever saw was a change in the leak base line with nasal pillow vs full face mask...and that was at most 5 L/min difference and for me that's not a big deal at all. I think there is a lot more wiggle room in this stuff than people want to believe. But...that's just my opinion and people are free to have their own and be different from mine.

Not surprised...the mask resistance and vent rate for the 2 masks are probably almost identical.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 11:28 pmIn Resmed world according to the manuals the n20 should be set as pillows and not nasal in the mask settings

For AirSense, AirCurve and S9: Select 'Pillows'.
For other devices: Select 'SWIFT' (if available), otherwise select 'MIRAGE' as the mask option.

Re: Please Interperet My Data
I read this on the boards and confirmed with the n20 manual. My DME setup with NASAL but I switched it to PILLOWS sometime after 1 week of use under the assumption it would help my leak data.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 11:28 pmIn Resmed world according to the manuals the n20 should be set as pillows and not nasal in the mask settings
I also believe my mouth breathing has decreased significantly because I went from using 1 full tank of water per night down to 1/2 tank (setting#4).
Last night appears to be better, I feel no more or less rested than usual.
