Evil insurance company

Post by Mikesus » Sat Mar 05, 2005 7:23 am

GRRRRR

Mailed claim 4 weeks ago... Insurance company says they have not received it. So, asked if I could fax it, sure they say. Fax it to them. Call back a few days later. THEY STILL DON'T HAVE IT!!!

Talked to the SAME rep that told me to fax it. She tells me, "Oh I didn't tell you to put it to anyone's attention? Well those just get SHREDDED EVERY NIGHT."

No wonder it takes 3 months for reimbursement!!!

Mikesus,

Get used to the insurance "Game." Luckily for me my wife was in the insurance and billing field for about 10 years. First for an insurance company and then for a medical facility. We have five kids, so sometimes dealing with screwed up claims seems like a full time job. One frustrating situation we encounter all the time is; they will deny a claim and when questioned can't come up with a reason why, so they tell us to have the claim resubmitted. Then they deny the second claim because it's a "duplicate claim." At this point you've got the Doc's office angry at you and you are about to reach throught the phone line and choke the CSR at the insurance company. Somehow my wife gets it all resolved. I guess she knows what buttons to push with these CSRs to get them to straighten it out. It sometimes takes 6 months though!

True story

My wife is in an accident. The paramedic determines she is in need of
emergency care and calls an Ambulance which takes her to the hospital.
The Emergency room of the hospital treats her, and then admits her.
She stays for one week and then is released. The insurance company
calls me and says that they aren't paying for the Ambulance as it
wasn't necessary. I said fine, just send the bill to my lawyer, since
my wife was "admitted", the admitting Doctor will make a great witness
for when we see you in court. The lady let out a gasp and hung up.
I never did see that bill! Now as a standard practice I toss out
every bill from the insurance company which is the first bill I get for one
specific thing. In most cases, I never see a second bill, as magically
the system kicks in after a couple of months and the bills get settled.

Wwe have had many struggles with various insurance companies over several things throughout the last 36 years. It's simply a fact of life. I think they hire people with the lowest IQs possible for their customer service sometimes.

One recent thing I learned during one of our month-long debates to get things corrected last year, was, in a talk with the supervisor, to never believe anything anyone in customer service tells you, because, according to the Supervisor, "They don't know anything!"
