paint fumes

Post by TLD » Fri Feb 02, 2007 11:00 am

Well the timing is bad, but we are having the house painted during my second week on CPAP. We have windows open and are airing out the house as best we can but the fumes are still present. I'm concerned about using my machine during all this. Breathing pressurized fumes doesn't sound like a good plan. No questions here - just rambling.

As if breathing unpressured paint fumes is any better. Put the XPAP outside and get a superheated hose. Planning painting projects on weather when you can't open up the house is poor planning. Jim

The pressurization shouldn't make much difference as compared to breathing the room air. The cpap doesn't really expose you to more air; it's just that the air you do breathe is under pressure . . . . too bad there's no such thing as "distilled air" we can just hook up to the machine.

I am so with you. We had our floors sanded and poly'd (with oil based poly no less) and even though we stayed out of the house for two weeks, it's still pretty fumy. And yes, very bad planning on my part!

I don't notice the fumes with my mask on, but I am stunned how strong they are when I take my mask off in the morning.

I don't know if it's the filter or what, but I don't notice the fumes as much with my mask on. Maybe something about the humidity?

If it latex paint, you should be fine. There is nothing in latex that will hurt you.
