First 6 Days on CPAP - Sleepyhead Data

Post by goobalala » Mon Mar 26, 2018 11:51 am

Hello all,

After a lot of very helpful information from you guys on the forum I managed to get through my first 6 days on my CPAP machine.
Here is the Sleepyhead data for each night if anyone could give me some insight on if I should be doing anything differently.

It's been a struggle keeping the mask on all night and I usually end up waking up early morning and taking it off, but it's getting better.
Last night was the first night I woke up feeling like I wasn't breathing. Not sure what was up with that..

Thanks everyone.

I don't see any urgent need to change anything at this time.

How's your sleep quality in general? Waking very often or sleeping soundly for the most part?

Hours of sleep....sometimes a bit on the short side...any special reason for that?

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

The short hours usually are because I'll remove the mask when I wake up in the early hours of the morning without thinking about it.
One of those nights with the 4 hours is because the hose somehow got water in it and started making a loud noise. So I shut it off to not wake my partner.

My sleep quality seems OK. I'll usually stay in the same position (on my back) throughout the night which before I would be all over the place.
Haven't noticed a lot of feeling differently throughout the day but I know it takes time.

Condensation in the mask or hose. Highly annoying but won't kill us.
You don't have as many options since you are using the PR S1 550 as those who are using machines with integrated capable heated hoses but you have some options.
See this thread posts # 2 and 3 for those options.

Yeah...it can take some time to actually feel any difference especially at first when sleep itself is all over the place.
Plus we can't really expect to feel better when we have short hours of sleep.
I know that even now after all these years I am going to feel like crap if I don't get enough hours of sleep no matter what that report might show and I have learned that for me to stand the greatest chance of not feeling like crap I need close to 8 hours of decent sleep.
I have other things unrelated to sleep apnea that will often mess with the needed hours of sleep so I just deal with it the best I can.

The water in the tube is "rainout".

The cause is water vapour condensing back into liquid because of the cooler temperatures of the hose.

Ways to mitigate:
  • Lower humidity setting (if you can tolerate less humidity)
  • Increase hose temperature, if it's a heated hose
  • Keep hose under blanket to keep warmer
  • Cover hose in a cozy/cover
  • Keep CPAP device lower than mattress height so any accumulated water will flow back into reservoir
