Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
I'm just wondering how many of you have a backup XPAP machine and also have you ever had to use it?
I'm thinking of getting a backup machine just in case and I'm just wondering what people's experience has been.

Re: Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
It's prudent to have a backup machine. I keep two of the same model (AutoSet S9). They are rotated about every six months. (I don't want to have a backup machine that has not been used in years.)
So far, I haven't had a breakdown that required the use of my backup machine. It's like insurance - you pay the premiums and hope you never need it. But, you are very happy to have it when needed.
I also keep backups of hoses and masks.

Re: Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
I have more than one back up machine but I have never had to use one because of primary machine failure.
Now I do use the back up machine as a travel machine simply for convenience of not having to disassemble my primary machine.
In my travel back of my back up machine I keep spares of everything...mask, hose, etc so that all I have to do if I need to go somewhere all I have to do is grab the travel bag and go.
The reason for more than one machine as back up....I experiment with various models that I pick up somewhere just because I want to try something different. Eventually I might sell a machine so that I can get another machine to play with.
So right now my primary machine is the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her.
Back up machines are a PR S1 BiPap Auto model 760 and a ResMed S9 Adapt (which is an ASV type of machine).
The PR S1 760 is currently out on loan to a friend...so at the moment in my possession the only back up available is the S9 Adapt.

Re: Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
I'm only 7 weeks into CPAP. 1 month with my own unit...Airsense 10 Autoset. Thinking about a backup or travel unit...not sure if switching to a Dreamstation Auto since its CAD$100 cheaper than the A10? I am wondering if I would get better sleep with the Dreamstation. My AHI are good with A10 at 2.3 with AI at 1.7 and centrals at 0.4 for the past month. Sleep quality is only okay at best...worst than pre-CPAP. 95 percentile pressure was 14.3 last month. Too bad that both units have different voltages...I have the Medistrom Pilot-24 Plus battery backup which wouldn't be compatible with the Dreamstation series unless it is the travel Go model with the optional cable kit.

I have 4-5 machines just for the hell of it. One of the shelves in my closet is full of various equipment. I tend to pull the trigger when I find a hard to pass up deal. I have a dedicated backup machine and also a dedicated travel machine, with all the accessories included so I don't have to cause myself to worry.

Re: Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
Power attachment to AeioMed Everest 3 burned out (and damaged the socket on the machine) in 2016. That machine was purchased in 2009. The backup was an F&P HC-231 that had been purchased in 2005. While my new machine (the one now in the profile) was in process (at the doctor) and on order (at the DME), my 231 performed faithfully for almost three months. Having a backup took the urgency out of the process, but I think that it still would have taken two to three weeks. That is still my backup.

I have more than 1 back up

Yes, and only once.
On a long drive, the bullfrog needed to pull over at a rest stop for a nap.
My Intellipap plugged into the 12VDC port on the dash,
so I could catch a few zzzz's without the obligatory headache.
After years of apnea-caused headaches, it is so nice to wake up without one.
Needless to say, I am addicted to air.

No! I have two backup machines, one I bought new from cpap(.) com, the other used off the net. I have used them to make sure they worked, never because mine broke, it's only 13 years old, it's still a pup! Jim

I always use my backup machine for 2 months out of the year February and March. A few years ago the backup machine went bad in the middle of the night.
Thank goodness for Accurate who fixed the broken machine very quickly and I was able to finish the month using the backup.

Re: Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
I don't have a backup but I've only been on xPAP since mid-January. However, last year, my husband (who also uses an xPAP) was convinced he needed a travel machine and bought a Transcend. He doesn't like it, too loud for him amongst other complaints, but keeps it in case of emergency. So I guess I kind of have a backup.

We have one backup machine for the two of us since we both use the same machine. My wife used the backup machine for four months while they tried various things to ensure she didn't need an ASV machine.

Re: Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
My very old S7 Lightweight was my backup machine used for travel until my trips started to be longer and I needed a humidifier. It has very few hours on it but I couldn't even give it away when I tried on here a while back. Nice little brick. The only time I needed an actual backup was the time my machine got knocked over - water and all - and I wanted to give it time to dry out before turning it on.

Re: Do you have a backup XPAP machine and have you ever had to use it?
My base machine is a S9 VPAP auto. My other machine is a Transcend Auto that does double duty as a travel machine and a back up. I use both at home. The S9 lives in the bedroom and the Transcend is in the family room when I want to nap in front of the TV. (Using the machine when I am taking a nap makes a big difference.)
