Bronchitis has been kicking my butt this past week and a half. There have been a few days where I've pulled my mask off in frustration after a couple hours because my nasal passages were completely clogged or I was coughing so bad I kept blowing the seal.
If I fall below the magic compliance number for Medicare, whatever that is, what will happen? Anyone know?
I've had this CPAP for several months now and used it every night til now. Will that make a difference?
Thanks!

Re: Bronchitis, Compliance and Medicare
Nothing to worry about. You are past the compliance period (three months). You must prove compliance (21 out of 30 days) within the first 90 days, and have a follow up with the prescribing physician within the first 90 days to verify compliance. Once you prove compliance during that 90 day period, it is up to your doctor to decide if he or she want to verify compliance once a year, or less. My doctor prefers to check compliance every six months. I don't remember if I used my machine during my last bronchitis attack, or not. I think I did, but I was also using my nebulizer machine every six hours, which helped to keep my lungs opened up so I could breath.

Sympathies to you. I used to get bronchitis all the time and that went away along with some other issues when the doc started treating me for silent acid reflux. So, if you get that bronchitis regularly, do consider that possibility. Yes, once you are past the compliance period of 90 days and seen your doc, Medicare doesn't care. Make sure that at least your regular doc documents your use of cpap machine annually. My doc, who now handles my scripts for supplies, just if I'm still using it and how is it working for me? He says he knows nothing about sleep medicine.

I love my machine the most when I have asthmatic bronchitis. It’s the only time of day I get relief from coughing. I use a FF mask when I have bronchitis.
