Extremely exhausted after third night

Post by caaaaaaaaarl » Fri Mar 23, 2018 3:48 pm

Hello there,

I started treatment again a few nights ago due to very poor memory and microsleeps.

Original sleep study in 2013 AHI was 53. Oxygen would dip just below 85%.

AHI during treatment is around 2.

Image

Equipment: ResMed AirSense 10. Full face mask. (I breathe through my mouth most of the time)

Is treatment supposed to make me feel this exhausted this early in the piece?

Any tips?

Edit: Forgot to mention it's set to auto from 6 - 20

So you've been on CPAP before? Do you remember what it was like the first weeks, adjusting to the machine and mask? I remember it was great in the lab, I woke up with more clarity and felt it was going to be exactly what I needed. But the adjustment at home took a while. It did make a difference, but my brain and body were still stressed and trying to adjust to this "new thing" (just like I have trouble the first or second night when traveling and in an unfamiliar bed).

You are having events still, so that can mean you are not getting full sleep cycles, but are being brought out and then going back to sleep (maybe without you noticing). Others may have advice on that.

It will get better... and your brain and body will appreciate your dedication to the therapy!

Please review this thread the next time you post a detailed report image.
You omitted the stuff on the left side that we like to see also.

While the AHI is 2...the RERAs are a bit more than I would like to see and point to maybe crappy sleep quality. Is this number of RERAs common for you or was this night a fluke worse than usual?
I know only 3 nights and need more nights but answer these questions below please.
Could we see the flow limitation graph please?

How many hours of sleep are you getting?
Are those hours of sleep fragmented with very many wake ups? If so, about how many and any idea why?
Do you take any medications? If so, what?
Do you have any other physical or mental health issues?

Welcome to the forum.

I remember struggling a lot more with it last time. But last time my anxiety was unmedicated so I think that's probably helped this time.

They did seem to be much worse that night. The next night was not so bad and I didn't feel so exhausted.

About 8 and a half hours or so usually.

Pretty much straight through.
Do you take any medications? If so, what?
Lexapro for Anxiety, Dexedrine for ADHD
Do you have any other physical or mental health issues?
As above I suffer from GAD and ADHD. I am also 150kg. At 28 I'm trying to loose at least 40kg of that but with a sleep disorder etc it's nigh impossible. At least it feels that way....

Thank you for the kind welcome!

Raise the minimum from 6 to 10 so that the pressure stays closer to where your need is.

I was going to say 10 too. He may need more later, 13? but this should get him into the ball park and use to the pressure.
CPAP is a big adjustment, some people can take a couple of months to get use to it, You sleeping through is a big start and a step ahead of most. it's not uncommon to wake up every couple of hours in the beginning.
