Off Topic: My Birthday
Okay, don't yell at me for cluttering up the board, but I wanted to share my special day with you. And it's also my 43rd Wedding Anniversary -- all happy.
Anyway, as per my Profile, I live in rural south Arkansas with no neighbors. We love it out here. This morning, two of these were strolling around my yard. How cool is that?
Also, it's spittin snow, so I'm having a great day. Wanted to share the picture with my internet friends.

Jim, I knew we were kindred spirits. Happy Birthday to you too.
And this original thread wasn't really about my b-day, it was about the Turkey. Get your priorities straight y'all. ...
Thanks to everyone for the best wishes.

Happy Birthday Linda AND Jim! And Linda, congratulations on 43 happy years of wedded bliss. Hubby and I are a year and a few months behind you.
We have a good size flock of turkeys in our area too. One of our real delights is to sit in the kitchen and watch out the patio door as the neighbors BIG cat creeps out from the edge of the woods toward the flock of turkeys when they visit our horse pasture. Just about the time he reaches the fence line a couple of tom's will puff up into their full glory and stalk towards the cat who then slips back into the woods. After strutting their stuff a bit the tom's go back to the flock. And shortly thereafter the cat starts creeping up to the fence line again. Only to have the tom's "do their thing" again. This can go on for a good half hour or better.
Just this spring we saw a fawn in our horse pasture cavorting and frolicing and having her/himself a fine ole time while momma doe stood just outside the fence on the edge of the woods stomping her feet and I would imagine snorting up a storm. The little stinker just had a delightful time tormenting mom by ignoring her. Momma would stomp and flick her tail and the little stinker would race off to the other side of the pasture, kick in the air a few times, just having a ball and then casually pretend to graze. Finally momma stalked off into the woods. At which point the pasture wasn't quite so much fun for the fawn anymore. He/she raced over to the fence and popper between the bottom and middle board and raced into the woods after momma.
Our land is pretty low here and near a game preserve where the geese pass thru on the migrations. When we have heavy rains we can get some pretty good size "ponds" in our horse pasture in the back and often see geese and mallards swimming and feeding in the "ponds" as long as they last.
Yup, sure does beat city living!!!

Women are Angels. And when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly.....on a broomstick. We are flexible like that.

Ya, I paid my dues in the "civilized world", now I'm enjoying the rewards from all that work and battling traffic.
I love wildlife and envy you your menagerie.
We've been here almost 10 years and these were the first turkeys we've seen in our yard. We get alot of deer, racoons, and possum. And we're usually lucky enough to see a couple of Bald Eagles every winter -- even this far South. It's pretty neat to stand by the windows, look down at the river and see the Eagles.
I'm really looking forward to March, so I can get out on the lake to fish for bass. That's my very best hobby.
Love being retired. Here's a picture of deer that visited us last year:

Today looks even better
Linda and Jim - thanks for the little "perk me up". I needed a nudge to feel celebratory today.
And all the descriptions of country living are like a breath of fresh air. Don't know that I could ever go back to the country to stay, but there's some precious memories and a vague sense of homesickness as I was reading.
Nothing like the crisp country air to awaken the senses, and I haven't found anything man has built that nurtures me within as does nature. Ahhhh.
Happy birthdays and happy anniversary!
Kathy
